Lorraine Veronica (Ferreira) McBride, 91, of Portsmouth, died peacefully on Sunday morning, July 6, 2025. A lifelong resident of Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late John and Julia (Roderick) Ferreira, and loving wife of 59 years to the late Paul McBride.
Fittingly born on the first day of Spring, Lorraine always spread sunshine wherever she went. Whether singing along to old standards, traveling near and far with family and friends, or playing with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, there was no shortage to the joy she always brought.
It's little wonder she was always wearing a smile. Lorraine worked for thirty years as a certified dental assistant and dental office manager. She was a member and Past President of the Rhode Island Dental Assistants Association in 1978 and also named the Dental Assistant of the year winning the Julia Souther Award in 1979, as well as the Barbara Bloomquist Award, the highest award given as a certified dental assistant. Over the years, her children and grandchildren always received a new toothbrush in their Christmas stocking and have her to thank for their bright and healthy teeth.
She was a member of the St. Barnabas Women's Guild, the Green Valley Country Club, Seaside Garden Club of Newport, The Navy League of Newport County, and the Museum of Newport Irish History. She was secretary/Treasurer of Ferreira Farm Land Corporation, a family business.
Lorraine was a communicant of St. Barnabas Church
Lorraine is survived by her children, Paul McBride II and his wife, Susan (Humphrey) of Dunkirk, MD, Deborah Hopkins and her husband Frank of Charlestown, RI and son Norman McBride and his wife Deborah (Chandler) of North Chelmsford, MA, and her brother Edward Ferreira of Portsmouth. She leaves seven grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Lorraine is preceded in death by three brothers, John and Raymond Ferreira of Portsmouth, and Henry Ferreira of Prudence Island; and three sisters, Lydia Ferrell of Portsmouth, Evelyn Rudisell of Tiverton, and Cecelia Price of Blacksburg, VA.
