Lorraine Moerman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rannells Funeral Home - Koontz Lake Chapel on Jul. 31, 2025.
Lorraine M. Moerman of Koontz Lake passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Miller's Merry Manor in Plymouth following an illness. She was 100 years old. Lorraine was born on February 1, 1925, in Pulaski County, Indiana, to the late Charles Tiede and Margaret (Gunn) Tiede. She spent her entire life in the area she loved and called home. On May 3, 1944, she married Eugene Moerman in South Bend. He preceded her in death, but their love and legacy continued through the generations that followed. Lorraine was a proud and faithful member of St. Dominic Catholic Church in Koontz Lake, and also a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 189 in Walkerton. She had a strong work ethic, retiring after years of service as a waitress, including many memorable years at Welco Truckstop and Swan Lake Hotel. Earlier in life, she worked as a switchboard operator, a job she recalled fondly. Those who knew Lorraine will remember her spirited personality-she could be sassy when she wanted to be, but her sharp wit was always followed by her deeply sweet nature. She loved to laugh, share stories, and spend time with her family, who meant the world to her. Lorraine was the proud matriarch of a large and loving family. She is survived by nine grandchildren: Hollie (Matt) Sanderson, Brett Lott, Melanie (Christopher Groszek) Strain, Melinda (Jeff) South, Jack Moerman, Allison (Bob) Clark, Lori Fortlander, Dawne (Al) Cowgill, and Larry (Michelle) Wood; sixteen great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her brother, Loren Tiede. In addition to her parents and husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by her daughter Cynthia Wood, her son Stephen Moerman, and two brothers, Jack and Charles Tiede. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. CDT on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. A Rosary service will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 1, also at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 a.m. at St. Dominic Catholic Church. Burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Walkerton. Lorraine's long life was a testament to her strength, warmth, and devotion. Her family and friends will forever cherish the memories, laughter, and love she shared throughout her century on this earth.
