Lorraine Obermeyer passed away Saturday, December 7, 2024. Rainey was born in Boise on September 26, 1935, the oldest daughter of Dale and Elaine Haines. The family grew to include three more daughters: Dalene, Sharon, and Patty.
Rainey grew up on the Boise bench. She attended school at Franklin Elementary, Whitney Elementary, Garfield Elementary, South Junior High, and Boise High School. As the oldest daughter, she was often responsible for babysitting her little sisters.
As a teenager, she spent an entire summer working in Yellowstone National Park. She graduated from high school in 1954. She attended Boise Junior College for one year and worked as an operator for Mountain Bell Telephone Company.
She married Don Fraser in 1955, and proceeded to raise her own family, six children born within an eight-year period. In keeping with the times, she became a stay-at-home Mom and remained so until the youngest kids were in school.
At that time, she went back to work for Mountain Bell, which became US West, and continued working there until her retirement in the early 1990s. She and Don moved to their home in Centerville, called "Trails End". Don passed away in 1995.
Mom married Bob Obermeyer in 2001, and they lived in the Idaho City area. They enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona until Moms health deteriorated. She became a resident of Ashley Manor in March of 2021, and remained there until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her baby brother Alan, her husband Don, and her sister Dalene. She leaves behind her husband, Bob Obermeyer, her sisters Sharon Smith and Patty Parks, a brother-in-law, Jerry Walker; her children and their spouses: Sue and Terry Baldwin, Cindy and Ron Dalby, Bev and Bob Rainwater, Scott and Geri Fraser, Nancy Fraser and Jerry Peterson, and Linda and Greg Cash. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank Christina, Senai, and Mary of Ashley Manor Boise, and Bree and Kelly of Auburn Crest Hospice, for the care that they provided Rainey.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Idaho Outdoor Association Event Hall at 3415 Brazil Street, Boise.
