LouAnn Latter passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 16th. She was 88 years young. She was the eldest child and only daughter of Mike and Marie Oberhelman. She leaves behind her daughter, Susan of Santa Clara, CA, her grandson, Michael Sutherland and his wife Becca of Saratoga, CA, and six other grandchildren, Briana, Christian, Jessica, Cassie, Alex, and Christopher. Her brother, John, and sons, Jim and Dave, preceded her in passing and have surely been there to greet her with open arms and loving hugs when she left this life to join them and her parents in heaven.
LouAnn was born in Manhattan, KS, and raised in Randolph, KS. She attended Topeka High School and graduated from Kansas State University in 1958 with a BA in Theater Arts. She worked at WIBW in Topeka followed by a move to Denver where she wrote commercials and worked in the radio department at KLZ owned by CBS. She hosted an on-air advice line, ""Ask Pat"", during this time. She had the opportunity to move to New York City to further her career under Lowell Thomas, writer, broadcaster, and filmmaker.
Throughout this time, her college beau, Don Latter, and she corresponded and decided to marry in 1962. They had three children, Susan, Jim, and Dave. They resided in several cities including Scottsbluff, Denver, Houston and Wayzata, MN. They finally settled in Saratoga in 1978 and divorced a few years later. LouAnn worked for a produce broker in her home office for 14 years followed by another position with Hallmark Cards as a display manager for ten years.
LouAnn loved golf and played since she was 11 when she took lessons at the country club in Topeka. She continued playing into her 60s. She loved movies and going out to dinner. She was an avid sports fan and rarely missed a 49er or Warriors game. She was actively involved in church wherever she lived. She was most recently a patron of Menlo Church and enjoyed attending when she could.
She enjoyed the years when her sons would have gatherings of friends in the home around the kitchen table in her cozy, yellow kitchen. These times were plenty! She was very proud of her sons and loved their friends dearly.
For those who really knew her, LouAnn was funny and good-hearted. She was organized and kept a beautiful home. She found joy in entertaining and cooking for family and friends she loved. She also enjoyed a little Chardonnay diluted with ice cubes and water in the evening - to keep from being too silly.
She was blessed to have the opportunity to raise her grandson, Michael from age eight to 20. She welcomed family members to occupy the extra rooms in her home in years to follow. She had a close relationship with her nieces, Jody and Jill. They enjoyed living with her for several years after relocating to CA in 1986. She was thrilled when Jim, Denise, and Jessica came to live with her in 2009. During the eight years they lived there, Jim passed away. Eventually, when Denise and Jessica moved to Oregon in 2017, Michael and Becca moved in to ensure that LouAnn had great company and care. Most recently, two remarkable caretakers took the day hours during the week. We are grateful to Adrianna and Vanessa for their love and TLC in her final years.
Please join us in celebrating the life of LouAnn Latter on Saturday, September 20th at 1:00 p.m. at Menlo Church at 20455 Herriman Avenue in Saratoga.
