Louis John Altier, age 92, of Strasburg and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Monday, November 11, 2024, while in the care of Ohio’s Hospice Truman House at New Philadelphia.
Born on February 10, 1932, in New Philadelphia, Louis was a son of the late Anthony and Bridget Dondrea Altier and served in the Korean War as a member of the United States Army.
On September 12, 1953, Louis married the former Mary Ann Pauline. Together the couple had two children and shared in 49 years of marriage prior to Mary Ann’s passing on September 18, 2002.
Professionally, Louis worked as a machinist at Commercial Honing. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia and the New Philadelphia VFW. Louis was an avid golfer who was enjoying the game up until this past year. He also loved grilling for his family and listening to the music of the Big Band and Rat Pack era.
Louis is survived by his children, Luanne Altier of Cambridge, and Andrew Altier of Dover; his companion Norma Ayers and her family; his grandchildren, Brittny Hinkley, Andrea Hinkley-Kinder, and Deven Kinder, and Macey Starner; his great-grandchildren, Parker, Carter, and Owen, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Louis was preceded in death by two sisters, Carmella Giannamore, and Virginia Rennecker; and a brother, Leonard Altier.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where Father Jeff Coning will lead a celebration of life service in the funeral home’s chapel at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia.
