Louis Casale Obituary

Louis A. Casale M.D., 92
Swampscott - Louis Anthony Casale, M.D., of Swampscott, Massachusetts, age 92, passed away on January 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Louis was born on February 24, 1933, in Watertown, Massachusetts, the son of Costanzo and Giacinta Casale. He graduated from Brighton High School and then attended Boston College, earning a B.S. in Biology and a master's degree. He went on to graduate from Boston University School of Medicine.
Louis had a distinguished career as a physician in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Major and serving as Chief of Medicine at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C., and Tripler General Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. During his Army service, he participated in the care of U.S. presidents, Supreme Court justices, and other officials. He later led the Department of Medicine and Medical Education at Lynn and Union Hospitals in Massachusetts and remained in private practice at Puritan Medical Center/North Shore Physicians Group until his retirement in 2008.
He loved being a doctor and was deeply devoted to caring for his patients and educating the public. He wrote a medical column for the Lynn Item, hosted a weekly radio program on WLYN, and served as a medical correspondent for Channel 7 in Boston. His many awards and commendations included Clinician of the Year and a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Despite his many professional accomplishments, he always put family first. He brought warmth, humor, and empathy to every moment. He was a devoted husband who was married for 66 years to his beloved wife, Johanne. Together they traveled the world, raised five children, and delighted in their grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Louis was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Swampscott, Massachusetts. He drew strength from daily prayer, and he tried to live his faith through compassion, humility, and service to others. His faith sustained him throughout his life and guided the way he cared for his patients, his family, and his community.
He is survived by his wife, Johanne; his children Karen Casale, Janet and Frank Sweeney, Greg and Laurie Casale, Jeff and Silvana Casale, and Jim and Laura Casale; grandchildren Nicholas, Alexa, Luciano, Molly, Mia, Ryan, Kayden, Thomas, Isabella, Austin, Zack, James, and Benjamin; his great-granddaughter Sloane; his loving sister-in-law Dorothy Markowitz; and many others who will miss him dearly.
Our family is forever grateful for the compassionate and skilled caregivers who attended to him over the past few months.
Service Information: Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Solimine Funeral Home, 67 Ocean Street, Lynn, Massachusetts, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 174 Humphrey Street, Swampscott, Massachusetts. Dear Karen,

My deepest sympathy to you and your family on your Dad's passing. What a wonderful man and doctor with that big welcoming smile. Year's ago your Dad treated me when I was in the Puritan medical practice on Highland ave. More recently I would see you and your Dad at mass. Often times you Dad would be doing tai chi at Mary's shrine and we would chat, he was so uplifitng.
May God grant you and your family peace and healing and may Dr Casale rest in the arms of his loving God and remain in peace for eternity.
Sincerely,
Betty Gallo
