Obituary of Louis George Cavaliere
Louis "Lou" G. Cavaliere, 87, of Buchanan passed away on July 29 at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Peekskill of natural causes. Born to Jean and Frank Cavaliere on May 12, 1937 in Manhattan, NY, he was married for 66 years to Josephine V. (Marafioti) Cavaliere (Verplanck NY). Lou served in the U.S. National Guard at Camp Smith as a diesel mechanic and enjoyed a long career as a heavy equipment mechanic for the Operating Engineers Local #137, and later retired from the municipality of Town of Cortlandt, NY as a fleet mechanic.
Any mention of Lou's life must include his love of boating and his camaraderie for his fellow boaters throughout the Hudson River. Lou was a lifetime member of the Peekskill Yacht Club where he was a boat owner and active participant along with his wife Jo in all Club events, and cherished all of the timeless relationships they created with their friends at the Club. He was also a lifetime member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Society in Verplank, NY.
While these details mark a life well spent, nothing was more important or enjoyable to Lou than his dearness for family and friends for whom he graciously gave unconditional love and support.
Lou is survived by his Wife, Josephine; Son, Michael Cavaliere of Cortlandt Manor and Daughter, Lori Jean of Orefield, PA; five grandchildren; Sean, Rachel, Jessica, Trevor, and Justin, and 5 great-grandchildren; Kayla Hope, Ava Jo, Mila Nicole, Gianna Rose, and Oliver Summit.
Lou was predeceased by his son, Brian Louis.
Visitation will be held at Joseph F. Nardone Funeral Home, 414 Washington Street, Peekskill, NY on Thursday, August 1, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Christopher's Church, 3094 Albany Post Rd, Buchanan, NY 10511, on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 10:00 am.
Interment to follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Verplanck, NY
