Louis Cooper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jowett Funeral Home and Cremation Service - New Haven on Jan. 27, 2026.
Louis Stephen Cooper passed away peacefully in his sleep early in the morning on Tuesday January 27th, 2026. Steve, was born on July 5, 1937, to his parents; Helen (Trysyruka) Czopor, and Ludwick Czopor. In 1947 his mother legally changed all their last names to Cooper. Steve shared his early years with his twin sister, Elaine (Leonard) Petouhoff, and his sister, Gloria (Jack) Zeigler.

After graduating from St Theresa High School in 1956, Steve proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. After coming home, he worked for Manufactures Bank in Detroit and that is where he met Clare Ann Hayes in an elevator. They got married on April 23, 1960, beginning a partnership rooted in commitment, faith, and family. Steve was the proud father of six children: Laurie (Tom) Ankoviak, Stephen (Cathy) Cooper, who preceded him in death, Tim (Joleen) Cooper, Kristen (Tim) Jenkins, Beth (Stephen) Hewett, Edward (Sherri) Cooper, his beloved grandchildren; Luci Cooper(Joel) Cox, Michelle (Sean) Kecskes, Christopher Cooper, Daniel Cooper, Michael (Kelsey) Ankoviak, Samantha (Seth) Hodges, Seth Jenkins, Zack Cooper, Evan Cooper, Graham Hewett, Jeremy Cooper, Travis Cooper, Jacob Cooper, Owen Hewett: his beloved great grandchildren: Charlotte Cooper Cox, Christoper Cooper Cox and Marshall Ankoviak.

Steve found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved taking care of his lawn, driving his tractor, spending time with dogs, relaxing up at the cottage in Lexington and enjoying a good long bath. He was a natural storyteller and never missed a chance to make people laugh with his well-timed dad jokes. He had a passion for working outside and maintaining his lawn. He worked for Vidosh Landscape company to finish out his career before retiring at age 65.

Above all, Steve loved God. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he knew the Bible by heart. He shared his faith through stories, kindness, and the way he lived each day. Family meant everything to him, and his love and guidance will continue to be felt by all who knew him. Steve believed, "The fact of the matter is that in the end, we will all be reunited in heaven with our Heavenly Father.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 24,2026 at 1:00pm, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly, Michigan 48442.

A luncheon/dinner will follow from 3:00pm- 6:00pm at the Mirage Banquet Hall, 16980 18 Mile Rd, Clinton Twp, Mi 48038.
