Louis Duel Obituary

Louis Alvin "Luke" Duel, Jr. was born May 8, 1963 in Guthrie, Oklahoma, to Louis Alvin Duel, Sr. and LuAnn Wade. He passed away Friday, November 21, 2025 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He attended school in Guthrie and graduated in 1981. Luke earned an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Central Oklahoma and later received his Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University School of Law. He attended law school in the evenings while working as the Logan County Undersheriff.

After completing law school, Luke was hired as an assistant district attorney in Logan County. Eight years later, he was appointed as a Special District Judge by Judge Donald Worthington. Two years after that appointment, he was elected Logan County Associate District Judge, a position he faithfully served in for the last sixteen and a half years.

Luke enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. He was a lifelong music lover. In his younger days, he sang as the lead vocalist with several groups and also played guitar. His family and friends were the true light of his life. He was also a devoted animal lover.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Duel, Sr. and LuAnn Wade and by his brother, David Duel.

Luke is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Pam Terpstra-Duel; his sister, Laurie Hollingsworth; brothers-in-law, Michael Hollingsworth and Jeff Terpstra; sisters-in-law, Lynda Terpstra and Jill Duel; and nieces and nephews, Lauren Stricker and husband, Shane, and their son, Decklan; Eric Hollingsworth and wife, Nita; Kaylee French and husband, Justin, and their son, Jordan; Collin Duel and wife, Hannah, and their daughters, Eleanor and Vera; sons, Collin Aaron and David; and Lacey Terpstra-Reid and husband, Chris, and their daughters, Addison and Brynlee.

Luke's dedication and long service to his community were defining parts of his career, but only a small reflection of the man he was. He loved his family, cherished his friends, and approached every decision - professional or personal - with fairness, compassion, and integrity. Truth and justice were always his guiding principles, and he believed every person deserved the opportunity to show their best.

Funeral services for Luke will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 29, 2025 at First Christian Church with Pastor Ronnie Fields officiating. Interment will follow at Summit View Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, 220 North 1st Street, Guthrie, Oklahoma 73044.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. on Friday at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home.
