Louis Duthu Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burton Funeral Home - Indianola on Apr. 25, 2024.
Louis Fletcher "Buggs" Duthu, 79, of Leland, and formerly of Rolling Fork, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at Baptist Medical Center in Jackson.
Louis was born October 17, 1944, in Belzoni, to Louis Francis Duthu and Evelyn Coalson Duthu. He grew up in Belzoni where he graduated from Belzoni High School. Louis then attended Mississippi Delta Junior College. He was a Mississippi Army National Guard Veteran. Louis worked for Nicholson Tool and Saw in Greenville for 18 years prior to opening Duthu Welding and Repair in Belzoni, where he worked for many years prior to his retirement. Louis loved Ole Miss football and had season tickets for many years. He also enjoyed SEC football and baseball. Louis enjoyed his vintage 1965 Ford Mustang and 1965 Chevrolet Truck. He and his wife enjoyed attending Mardi Gras, music festivals, and especially the Catfish Festival in Belzoni. Buggs was a cut up and could crack a joke from most anything; he enjoyed joking around with people. Most of all, Buggs was a great man, a true friend, and never saw the bad in people.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepdaughter, Kimberly Andrews Oldham; brother, Cecil Duthu; and three sisters, Francis Durden, Eva Duthu, and Willie Mae Dozier.
Louis is survived by his wife of 33 years, Mena Toche Duthu, of Leland; daughter, Melissa Freeman of Houston, Arkansas; stepdaughter, Kristine Nguyen (Tuan) of Forth Worth, Texas; brother, Jerry Duthu (Charlotte) of Jackson; sister in law, Margaret Duthu of Belzoni; and brother in law, Gerald Dozier of Toomsuba; and four grandchildren, Olivia Freeman of Houston, Arkansas, Julian Nguyen of Tempe, Arizona, Veronica Nguyen St. John (Zack) of Farmingdale, New York, and Hayley Oldham of Ridgeland.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 26, 2024, from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm, at Rolling Fork United Methodist Church. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev. Linda Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery in Rolling Fork. Burton Funeral Home of Indianola has been entrusted with arrangements.
