Louis Lazzerini

Louis A. Lazzerini, 86, of Coventry, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on November 21, 2025. Born on April 6, 1939, Louis lived a life guided by passion, dedication, and a deep love for music that touched the hearts of countless students, colleagues, and audiences.
A gifted bassoonist, Louis devoted 48 years to performing with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, where his artistry, professionalism, and quiet leadership made him a cherished member of the ensemble. Beyond the stage, Louis found his greatest fulfillment in teaching at South Windsor High School. He was a steadfast mentor to young musicians, nurturing their talents, encouraging their confidence, and inspiring in them the same joy for music that defined his own life. His influence continues to echo in the lives and careers of the many students he guided.
Louis is predeceased by his parents, August and Irene (Rinaldi) Lazzerini of Plainville, CT and his sister and brother-in-law, Francis and Fred Phinney. He is survived by his former wife, Margo C. Lazzerini, with whom he shared many meaningful chapters of life. He leaves behind his four children, each of whom reflects his strength, creativity, and compassion: Lauren Olson and her husband, Peter Olson; Kerry Foust and her husband, Steven Foust; Beth Pratt and her husband, Stuart Pratt; and his son, Peter Lazzerini and his wife, Sherry Lazzerini; and his sister, Rita Riley and husband Michael. Louis was also the proud grandfather of ten beloved grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and carried forward his love of music.
Louis will be remembered not only for his remarkable musical legacy but also for his kindness and patience he held for his students, and the unwavering love he held for his family. His presence enriched every room he entered, and his memory will continue to resonate-like a well-loved melody-in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Calling hours will be held at John F. Tierney Funeral Home, 219 W. Center Street, Manchester, CT, on Thursday, December 4 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm. In honor of Louis's lifelong dedication to music and education, the family invites friends and loved ones to share a moment of music, generosity, or mentorship in his memory.
