Louis Mocca Obituary

Published by Rapp Funeral & Cremation Services - Silver Spring from Apr. 6 to Apr. 7, 2012.
Lou passed away suddenly on Friday, March 30, 2012.

Lou's life was blessed with many joys- his family, two Bernese mountain dogs, his passion for cycling, running, kayaking, watching the Redskins, the beach, and one special 1969 Chevelle.

Lou dedicated his career to helping others through the promotion of life saving vaccines. He honorably served his country for 20 years in the United States Public Health Services retiring at the rank of Commander. Lou is survived by his loving wife Ellen, his 3 beloved sons-Andrew, Chris and Brian who he loved with all his heart, 4 beautiful Grandchildren-Rachel, Liliana, Sophia and Vincent , his "best friends", Donovan and Bella and so many other loving family members and friends.
Words cannot express how much he will be missed.

"To laugh often and love much…to have the affection of children; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a beautiful child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has been made easier because you have lived-this is to have succeeded in life."

Two things after all these years still stand out in my mind. His keen insights and calm intelligence and that he was such a "regular guy", no arrogance, just competence and always of good cheer.

I think about Lou quite often, such kindness, gentlemanly ways. He and Ellen were so good to me, made my time with them so important. I don't know if they knew how much I appreciated both of them--how fine my memories are of both. I wish Lou were here today, and look forward with hope, to seeing him again, in some way, at some place.

Oh my Lord---I had no idea this kind, generous, graceful, and intelligent man was no longer with us. How well I remember Lou and Ellen, what a pleasure to work with them, and to know them for the short time that I did "way back when". Just today I decided to find out "what Ellen and Lou have been doing" and I must say, regardless of the length of time since we last visited, that my heart...sunk. For ME, this is very new, very hard to hear. Ellen, I know this is well after the fact, but still, it matters very much, to me. You and Lou will always matter so deeply to me. I wish I were there right now to hug you and tell you what a wonderful blessing in my life it was--to know both of you. God bless you Ellen--and God bless Lou. Jim Isbell, [email protected]

It has been a year ago today that God took you home. The loss is just as surreal as it was then. We miss you so much. We will love you forever and we wish you peace.

Dear Mocca Family
I was lucky enough to call Lou, my friend, and it doesnt matter that I hadnt seen him for awhile. Lou and I were cosnider "mischief" as office mates at the FDA - for good reason :-) He could make the most tedious FDA tasks fun. I was thinking of all of you and Im sure you are missing him with the holidays. I hope sweet memories are bringing comfort. Love, Chris Mink (Mom of Lucy Dog - who Lou loved too)

You will be greatly missed Lou. It has been an incredible pleasure knowing you over the past five years. I miss our morning chats where I learned alot about your love for your family, your dogs and, of course, your biking. You certainly helped me get adjusted here at BARDA and I will always remember the advice you gave me...especially the attitude you told me I needed to have. You were a kind, caring, and hilarious man. I know you are making them all laugh upstairs.

Ellen,

I know that words are inadequate at a time like this but I wanted you to know how very sorry I am for your loss. The loss of a spouse is a tragic event and I can only imagine the pain and suffering you are experiencing.

It is times like this that our faith is put to the test. We know that we must accept his passing and give thanks for the wonderful life he lived. As sad as it will be, your family and friends will always have the memory of him to hold in your hearts.

The Bible reminds us that "Blessed are those that mourn for they shall be comforted." I pray that this will be especially true for you and your family as you mourn your loss.

I pray that God will give you the strength to see you through this sad and difficult time. My thoughts and prayers will be with you all.

In Faith & Sympathy,

Carmen Polanco

Ellen,

Joe, Ben and I share in your sadness at the loss of Lou. Ben and I will especially miss watching him ride past our house. I can remember when Ben was just a little guy with his face pressed against the window and how excited he would get when he saw Lou ride by. Lou was such a joy to all who knew him. I am glad I had the opportunity to know him. Anni Porto
