Louis Warren III, born on April 4th, 1952 to Shirley (Frye) and Louis Warren Jr in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away surrounded by his loving family and friends on Wednesday January 8th, 2025. He leaves behind a tremendous legacy of hard work, sobriety, and a dedication to all who knew him.
Active in the AA community for the past 38 years, Louie was a champion; a man who lived his life with humility, strong work ethic, and a sense of humor. He sat on the boards of Sober Works and The Ice House, helping countless individuals find a path to recovery. A giant within the sober community, his loss will leave a gap that will be harder to fill than his size 12 shoes.
At the age of 23, Louie founded LW Electric, later Warren Electric, with his sister Becky. Over the years, he was able to build his business into a great success, based on his philosophy of hard work and perseverance in the face of tragedy. If you could bottle up some of Louie's resilience and hand it out, the world would be a much better place.
It wasn't always the case, however. In 1987, Louie had reached his rock bottom. Sick and hospitalized with liver failure and esophageal varices, Louie was knocking on death's door. He had lost faith in his higher power, but knew he needed help if he was going to live. He prayed to the helicopter outside his window that if he should live, he would lead a better life. That was his turning point, and with the help of a young GI doctor, Whitney Jones, he was able to turn his life around. He got sober, and in 1999 was the recipient of a life-saving liver transplant. He took great care of that liver for the rest of his life, and Dr Whitney Jones remains his life-long friend. His gratitude to his donor and donor's family was unwavering, as is ours for the time we were given with this wonderful man.
He is predeceased by his son James Louis; parents Louis Warren Jr, and Shirley and Paul Badget; sister Mona Smallwood, and brother Ricky Warren.
He is survived by his loving wife Jo Ann; sisters Martha Rosenbarger and Rebecca Jo Warren; children Laurie (Jeff) Huelsman, Lisa Johnson, Aidan Blunk, Katherine Blunk, and Timothy (Betsy) Blunk; nieces Paula and Kelly; grandchildren Katie, Maggie, Rob, Corey, Nicole, Hunter and Theo; and 5 great-grandchildren, a great niece Shelby, and a great nephew, Cade.
We will honor Louie with a Celebration of Life at 11 am on Wednesday January 15th at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Lane, with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
Friends and Family may pay their respects on Tuesday January 14th, from 3-6 pm, and at 6 pm there will be an AA meeting for any who would like to attend.
Expressions of sympathy can be made to The Ice House, 1400 S Shelby Street 40217.

"Hey did anyone ever tell you ,you look like Tom Petty?" That is how my husband and I met Louie he was playing ball with his little buddy by the pool at Long Bayou in Florida and I asked him if anyone ever told him he looked like Tom Petty. We became friends after that meeting. Louis will be missed by many people as he was loved by many during his lifetime.
