Louisa Jane Pressley, 91, entered into rest on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
Louisa, a beloved educator and cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, was born on February 7, 1934, in Abbeville, South Carolina, to the late Haynes Pressley, Sr. and Ruth Robinson Pressley. With a passion for teaching, she dedicated over 30 years of her life to shaping young minds, leaving a lasting impression on generations of students, many of whom continued to show their appreciation for her guidance and kindness long after they left her classroom. Among her many pupils was none other than Chubby Checker, a testament to the wide-reaching impact of her career.
Louisa had a warmth that was truly unmatched; she never met a stranger and had a natural gift for making people feel special with her thoughtful compliments and kindhearted spirit. She found great joy in the company of books, losing herself in their pages whenever she had the chance. Her faithful feline companion, Lady Ann, was her pride and joy, often accompanying her on neighborhood strolls.
Above all, Louisa’s greatest pride was her family. She found immense happiness in creating cherished memories with her loved ones, and her presence brought light and laughter to every gathering. Louisa’s kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In addition to her parents, Louisa was preceded in death by two siblings.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her daughter, Saraya Kaye Costello (Charlie) of Warner Robins, Georgia; grandchildren, Christopher Costello of New Orleans, Louisiana and Tabitha Costello of Warner Robins, Georgia; great-grandchild, Phoenix Costello; sister, Barbara Jean Lisbon (Philip) of Columbia, South Carolina; and nieces and nephews, Tonya Pressley, Haynes Pressley, III (Deirde), Kylee Doyle (Margaret), and Avery Tolliver, along with many other loving family members and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Louisa will be laid to rest in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Louisa Pressley to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or The Wounded Warrior Project at P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675.
