Louise Amatangelo Freund passed away peacefully on Monday evening, September 22, 2025, at the age of 85. She was born on May 29, 1940, in North Charleroi, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Frank and Amelia (Genemore) Amatangelo. Louise grew up in Donora, Pennsylvania and graduated from Donora High School in 1958. She earned a B.A. degree in 1963 from Seton Hill College, following her completion of a five-year course of study in art and elementary education. She later continued her studies at Western Connecticut State University, receiving an M.S. degree in 1975. During graduate school, she worked as a resident artist for an operatic company in Shrub Oak, New York. She taught part-time and full-time in both public and private schools in Westchester and Dutchess counties when she lived in New York. Louise considered her years of teaching as one of her life's biggest joys and her role of helping young students learn to read as particularly rewarding. Louise's passion for teaching extended beyond the classroom, and as a devoted mother and grandmother, encouraged her family to indulge in her favorite subjects of art, literature, and music. A talented artist and pianist, she encouraged her children to play musical instruments, taught drawing lessons, and painted murals on her grandchildren's bedroom walls. She was constantly proud of her children's academic and musical achievements and most importantly, treasured her time in her later years, while living in North Carolina, with her "grands". An outgoing and dynamic conversationalist, she will be remembered not only for her devotion to her family and students but also for her captivating and often humorous stories of her life. She will be deeply missed by her children, Kristin (Sean) Murphy of Cary, NC and John Freund of Teaneck, NJ, and her four "grands": Keelyn and Kyle Murphy of Cary, NC and Jesse and Emmalyn Freund of Teaneck, NJ. In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent J. Freund, Jr., and her brother, John R. Amatangelo. A funeral Mass will be held on October 17th at 1PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Transitions LifeCare hospice organization (https://www.transitionslifecare.org/donate/) and to the American Diabetes Association (donate in memory).
