Louise Thompson, affectionately known by nicknames like 'Lou', 'Goldmeat', 'granny', and 'mama', was a spirited woman with a zest for life like no other. Born on December 13, 1942, in Bastrop, Texas, Louise lived a life marked by dedication, an unwavering love for her family, and a deep sense of faith. She was a witty conversationalist, reliable friend, and a beacon of love to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Maya Angelou once said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Louise, my grandmother, made everyone feel loved, valued, and special.
Louise Hyder Thompson was a devoted worker, faithful servant, and loving matriarch whose life reflected dedication, grace, and strength. She spent over 30 years serving the State of Texas as an Office Admit before retiring from Austin State School. Her reliability, commitment, and compassion touched the lives of all who worked alongside her.
Louise's faith was the foundation of her life. She loved the Lord and served faithfully in her church, where she held many roles including Choir President, Program Chairperson, and First Assistant Recording Secretary with Austin Citywide Mission II. She also shared her gifts with the BLH Bradshaw Talent Hour Committee. Her love for worship and service shined brightly through everything she did.
Louise's life was filled with joy and purpose. She enjoyed playing solitaire on her computer each day and watching her favorite soap opera, The Young and the Restless. She had a strong passion for politics and made sure to vote in every election. Nothing, however, brought her more joy than celebrating the special achievements and milestones of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Louise loved style and fashion-her radiant sense of style was a reflection of her vibrant personality. She always made sure her hair, nails, and makeup were beautifully done. Her love for music, especially church music and the blues, spoke to both her deep faith and her joyful spirit. Her church, her faith, and her family were the cornerstones of her life. Louise cherished them dearly and lived each day with love, kindness, and gratitude.
Louise leaves to cherish her memory her children: Karen Hyder Antoine, Wanda Hyder Floyd, Kerry Hyder, and Kirmet Hyder; her grandchildren: Ka'Rhonda Houston, Takisha Hyder, Aldon Hyder, Alexis Hyder, Armond Hyder, Lance Hyder, KT Hyder, Charles Houston, Christopher Cooper, Shalonda Houston, Candace Hyder, Kendra Hyder, Ariel Hyder, Julian Mazone, TP Hyder, Kermisha Hyder, Kerria Hyder, Alajiha Hyder, Antionette Loving, Destiny Hyder, and a host of great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, Israel Thompson; her mother, Laura Hyder; her father, Kirmet Hyder; her sisters, Zelma Pannell and Imogene Miles; and her brother, H.P. Hyder.
Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure,
She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
A public visitation for Louise will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 10:00 am at Lone Star Baptist Church, 268 Shiloh Road, Bastrop, Texas, 78602, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at the same location. Internment will take place at 1:00 pm at 385 Farm to Market 20, Bastrop, Texas, 78602.
