Lourdes Patria Mataban (a.k.a. Pat or Tita Patty)
9 August 1935 – 26 March 2025
Born 8 August 1935, it was not until years later before she met her life partner of almost 65 years. The first time Patria and Antonio became aware of each other was in 1948 when they were both going to high school at San Carlos College, the school her father had founded in 1947 and is still part of the family today.
Upon graduation and finishing at the top of her class, both attended their respective colleges in Manila. Patria went to Centro Escolar University to become a teacher while Antonio pursued medicine at the University of Santo Tomas. During this time, their relationship remained as acquaintances. It was not until after Antonio completed his residency and Patria was back at her family's school teaching, they become engaged and were married on 2 June 1960.
Her first son, Augustus (Titus), was born 2 August 1961. While pregnant with the second son, Antonio came to the United States to become a doctor here. Although apart, Patria was still surrounded by her siblings and family when her son, Alberto (Al), was born on 20 September 1963. Soon after, she joined her husband in 1965 while he was completing his specialty training at one of the New York City hospitals. Soon after, the third son, Alexis, was born on 31 July 1967, the same birthday as her mom.
The family was finally reunited in 1971 in the United States. Antonio was in his private practice when he decided to join the US Air Force which allowed the family to see other parts of the US as well as Europe and Asia. As the wife of an Air Force officer, Patria devoted her time as a volunteer in the Air Force Family Services program which is used to help all families adjust to their new surroundings. Upon Antonio's retirement, Patria was also recognized for her career service as a Family Service Volunteer.
Although retired from the Air Force, she remained busy with both the family and the community until finally moving to Antioch. There may have been no social events, Patria devoted herself to the local Catholic Church until her body no longer allowed her to be active in the community.
Patria took residence at Angel Care Homes until her passing on 26 March 2025. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Lourdes, please visit our floral store.
