Obituary of Lowell Robert Bursell

Lowell Robert Bursell, 87, of Columbia Heights, MN passed away suddenly on August 16, 2025. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on September 7, 1937, Lowell was the eldest of five siblings. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Esther Anderson, his parents, Dolores and Robert Bursell, and his wife Carla. He is survived by his brother Jim Bursell (Lynn), Carolyn Baumgartner, Kathy Droll, Jan Bankey, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lowell is survived by his children, Lynn Bursell (Joe Kiely), Bonnie Bursell, and Michael Bursell (Linda) and his beloved grandchildren Joshua Bodick, Jenna Beaverson (Luke), Jessica Steinhagen (Bradley),Conor and Bridget Kiely, Samantha, Jordan, and Luke Bursell, his great grandchildren, Ruby, Ophelia, and Gwendolyn Beaverson.

Lowell grew up in North East Minneapolis graduating from Edison High School in 1955. Over the years he worked as a bus driver for the transit system and Edina School System, State of Minnesota employee, and, the job he was most proud of, as Maintenance Engineer for two governors of Minnesota where he developed his gardening skills.

Lowell enjoyed gardening, canning tomatoes and salsa, cooking, golfing, driving his beloved wiener dog Holly Belle squirrel hunting (no squirrels were harmed), and spending time with family. We are indebted to his neighbors, Julie and John Bess, for looking out for him over the years. Lowell felt extremely lucky to have great friends in life and at the Fridley Legion. A celebration of Lowell's life will be held at the American Legion Post 303, 7365 Central Ave NE, Fridley, MN 55432 on Friday 8/22/25 from 2-6:00 PM. Burial will be at Crystal Lake Cemetery at a later date.
