Lowell Maurice Terry, 93, of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Lowell was born on March 20, 1932, the second of six children in Hilltop, West Virginia, to Joseph James Terry and Louise Monroe Terry. He was baptized at age 12 in the creek. At Greentown Baptist Church, he sang in the children’s choir.

He graduated from Stratton High School in 1950 in Beckley, West Virginia, and attended WV State College. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1951 for four years and received an honorable discharge. He married Mary Louise Pope on December 27, 1953, and they settled in Philadelphia. From this union, they had a daughter, Angela. Their love, as a couple, lasted 71 years.

While living in Philadelphia, Lowell attended Temple University, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy. He worked at Boeing for many years as an inspector in the Helicopter Defense Division and retired at age 70. He was an active participant in community activities that were suitable for families.

A talented musician with a beautiful tenor voice, Lowell was a member of the renowned Paul Roberts Choir for 50 years. The choir performed every year at the Academy of Music, often accompanied by members of The Philadelphia Orchestra. He also sang with The Pinn Memorial Baptist Church and The Seventh-day Adventist Church. Lowell loved sports and was a big fan of the Eagles, Washington Commanders (formerly Red Skins), and Ohio State University.

In 2003, Lowell and Mary relocated to Columbus, Ohio, to be near their daughter Angela and her family. He was witty, humorous, and had an infectious smile. A kind-hearted man, he was always eager to help those in need. He will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph J. and Louise Terry; his sister, June M. Mosby; and brothers, Algie and Alonzo Terry.

Precious memories of Lowell will live on through his wife, Mary; his daughter, Angela; grandson, Daniel M. Chadrick; his sister, Barbara Collins; his brother, Joseph C. Terry, and his wife, Wanna; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
