Loyd Ankeny Brown, 78, Nevada, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Green Hills Healthcare Center in Ames.
Loyd was born on June 3, 1947, in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Allan Ankeny Brown and Della May Shannon. He graduated from Lohrville High School in 1965 and pursued his passion for agriculture at Iowa State University, where he majored in Ag Business and earned his bachelor's degree in 1969.
On June 11, 1966, Loyd married his childhood sweetheart, Sue Johnson. Together, they built a loving home filled with laughter, faith, and family and shared a lifetime of memories. Loyd found his greatest joy in spending time with those he loved-especially playing with his grandchildren and cheering them on in all their endeavors.
Loyd enjoyed staying active and embracing life with adventure and energy. Beyond his professional life, Loyd was known for his civic leadership and generous spirit. He was actively involved in community organizations and philanthropic efforts. His enthusiasm for life, strong faith, and commitment to others left an enduring mark on everyone who knew him.
Loyd's background in agriculture led him to a distinguished, 49-year career at Hertz Farm Management in Nevada and Mt. Vernon, where he spent several of those years leading the organization as president. His leadership and expertise were nationally respected in the field of farm management.
Loyd is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Sue; his children, Dan (Ashley) Brown, Kristin (Larry) James, and Ryan (Ashley Cooprider-Brown); his grandchildren, Caleb (Kayla) Brown, Anna Brown, Benjamin James, Nicholas James, Spencer James, Griffin Brown, and Willow Brown; his great-grandchildren, Roanin Brown and Aeowyn Brown; his sister, Neva (Bill) Campbell and his brother, Paul (Sally) Brown and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Harold, Ruth, Carl, Faye, Nina, Rita, Beth, Earl, Gary, and Dean.
A visitation will be held Friday, November 21, 2025, 4:00 p.m.-7:00p.m. at Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home, 1418 Fawcett Pkwy, Nevada, IA. A funeral service honoring Loyd's life will take place Saturday, November 22, 2025, 1:30 p.m. at the Nevada First United Methodist Church, 1036 7th Street, Nevada, IA.
