Lt. Col. John Arnold Barnes (Ret.), age 90, of Bel Air, MD, passed away on May 11, 2014 at his home. Born in Frankfort, KY, he was the son of the late Dr. Allen Stanley Barnes and Helen Bacciocco Barnes. A 20 year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Strategic Air Command, he served during WWII and the Korean War as a Bombardier Navigator. Upon retirement from the U.S. Military, John joined the Aberdeen Proving Grounds Human Engineering Laboratories, where he worked as an Aeronautical Instrumentation Engineer. He was an avid hobbyist and collector, passionate about restoring classical cars and collecting model trains; and he loved his Schnauzer, Max. Mr. Barnes is survived by his wife of 68 years, Tina Barnes; sons, John A. Barnes and wife, Kathy, of Bel Air, Victor A. Barnes and his partner, Kevyn Robinson, of Chicago, IL and William Stanley Barnes and wife, Lisa, of Richmond, KY; daughter, Celide M. Koerner and husband, Peter, of Baltimore; grandchildren, Emily Barnes, Hillary Loper, Camille Barnes, Sarah Barnes, Olivia Koerner, Angela Koerner and Isaac Koerner; and great-grandson, Grant Loper.
