Lt. Col. Robert Paul McIntire, Sr.

 

Lt. Col. Robert P. McIntire, Sr. went to be with his Father and his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, July 5, 2013 at the age of 75. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 13, 2013 at First Christian Church, 2323 Broadway in Lubbock with Reverend Jim Bales presiding.

Col. Bob McIntire flew four tours of duty in Vietnam in the F-4 Phantom Fighter Jet.  He earned the following military awards: Two Distinguished Flying Crosses, Two Meritorious Service Medals, Twelve Air Medals, Two Air Force Commendation Medals, a Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, a Combat Readiness Medal, Five Air Force Longevity Service Ribbons, Six Vietnam Service Medals, an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam), the Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal.  Bob made headlines as "Top Gun" during his service as a Fighter Pilot.  He flew the F-102 Delta Dart jet fighter at Perrin Air Force Base and Zaragoza, Spain, and the F-4 Phantom jet fighter at George Air Force Base California and in Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippine Islands, and Germany where he commanded the 512th Tactical Fighter Squadron.  He holds a record for fighter missions in Vietnam. 

Bob and his family lived in Spain, Japan, the Philippine Islands, Germany, Alabama, California, New Mexico and Texas.  Bob served in the Air Force for 21 years, after which he graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law.  Beginning in 1989, he served as an Assistant District Attorney in Lubbock County.  Col. McIntire was known to open his home to those in need, and served for many years as the leader of a Bible Study Group.

Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Dr. Sharon Ann Shelton McIntire of Raider Ranch; his eldest son, Robert Paul McIntire, Jr. and wife Tina; his youngest son, Michael-Jay McIntire and wife Amy; grandchildren, Michael, Sean, Jake, Kaitlyn, Ashton, Garrett and Scott, all of Lubbock.  He is also survived by his sister, Marsha Houser and her husband Steve of San Antonio. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Velma McIntire, and brother, Kenny McIntire.
