Lt. Ise Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 6, 2012.
Lt. Col./Dr. Frank Harold Ise Jr., 76, Platte City, MO, died Aug. 6, 2012, at Olathe Medical Center after suffering injuries following a fall during the Spencer C. Duncan Make It Count 5k, an event he participated in with pride and honor for those veterans lost or wounded. Frank was born June 15, 1936 in Wichita, KS. After graduating from the University of Kansas and attending the Washington University School of Medicine, Frank served over three decades as an orthopedic surgeon. His sole mission was to help patients in the most effective manner feasible. At the age of 53, feeling a greater calling, Frank, like his father and grandfather before him, enlisted in the United States Army and soon served honorably in Operation Desert Storm. Following three years of active duty, he returned to the public medical field, remaining in the United States Army Reserves. He never quit or backed down from a challenge. In 1998, Frank retired from orthopedic medicine to become the Chief Medical Officer at the Kansas City Military Entrance Processing Station. He was defined by his work, his contribution to the United States military, bell ringing for the salvation army, and his love and compassion for animals. Wherever he is now, Frank is certain to be surrounded by the creatures he loved most. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank (Dutch) and Dorothy Davis Ise. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Frank (Sue), Anne(Sean Daw), John (Karon), Brad, and Greg; eight grandchildren; Eric, Kiel, Maeve, Els, Amalie, Cecilia, Gabriel and Veronica, sister, Rosemary (Art Dobson) four nieces and nephews; and beloved pets. A memorial service will be held 10:30 am, Sat., Aug. 18 at his home. In lieu of flowers, Frank can be honored by making contributions to the Lawrence Humane Society, PO Box 651, Lawrence, KS 66044.
