HAMEL, Luana Louise - Age 94, of Fenton, died Saturday, January 14, 2012 in Monroe. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, January 19, 2012 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide St, Fenton. Fr. David Harvey celebrant. Burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Wednesday from 1-9 PM and at Church Thursday from 10 AM until time of service. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, 610 W. Elm Avenue, Monroe, MI 48162. Mrs. Hamel was born October 1, 1917 in River Rouge, the daughter of Carl and Zella (Moore) Liphardt. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes High School in River Rouge. She married Oliver Thomas Hamel June 17, 1937 in River Rouge and he preceded her in death July 12, 1991. Mrs. Hamel had resided in Fenton since 1979 coming from Allen Park/River Rouge. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Christian Mother's. Surviving are: 8 children, Thomas and wife Marlene Hamel, Carol and husband Thomas McGrath, Robert and wife Elaine Hamel, Jean and husband Joseph Jarosz, Mary and husband Michael Kasperek, Barbara and husband Robert Gengle, Joyce and husband Alan Tecmire and Joseph and wife Brenda Hamel; 30 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren; sister, Jeannette and husband James Donahue; 3 brothers, Bernard and wife Clare Liphardt, William Liphardt and Thomas and wife Susan Liphardt; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Susan Hamel; sister, Rhodella Cosgrove; sister-in-law, Marlene.
