Luanne Hunter MacMillan

LUNENBURG: Luanne Hunter MacMillan, 70, of Lunenburg, died Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Health Alliance -Leominster Hospital surrounded by her loving family following complications due to lung cancer treatment.
Luanne was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, August 19, 1954, a daughter of the late Robert Hunter and Virginia (Whitcomb) Penniman and resided in Lunenburg for most of her life. She was a 1972 graduate of Lunenburg High School.
Throughout her working life, Luanne held several different and varied employment positions but her favorite position was being sales associate at Toys R Us in Leominster where she met many friends and loved seeing all the children. Her most loved career was being a mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. This was not limited to her own family, if you meant something to her family, you were also considered family. She was called "mom" by many. If you needed a ride, babysitter, meal, cup of coffee, conversation, hug, recipes, or even an occasional reality check, Luanne was always there.
Luanne's favorite memories were of the times she spent with her children and grandchildren. Through the years she stayed busy coaching cheerleading and basketball in the Lunenburg Youth Sports Programs. The crowds always knew when one of her children were playing, as she was always their biggest and loudest fan. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting gifts for family and young children. Her knitting needles, embrace, and gigantic heart has helped warm and comfort countless children. She was also a member of the Alcoholics Anonymous Fellowship and member of the United Parish of Lunenburg.
She leaves her husband of 44 years, Robert B. MacMillan; two daughters, Jaime L. Moore and husband Ryan of Lunenburg, Jennifer L. MacMillan of Old Orchard Beach, Maine; her son, Douglas R.M. MacMillan and wife Becky of Lunenburg; two sisters; Pamela Najarian of Hopedale, Kay Salo of Lunenburg; three brothers, Bruce Penniman of Amherst, Wayne Penniman of Gardner, Keith Penniman of Ashburnham; her mother in law, Marilyn A. (Proctor) MacMillan of Lunenburg; ten grandchildren, Jesse MacMillan, Katlyn Moore, Brooke Lyons, Peyton Lyons, Noah Moore, Emersyn Moore, Kaleb Bell, Alia Bell, Robert MacMillan and Steven MacMillan. She also leaves 26 nieces and nephews, and many grand nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her stepfather, Merton Penniman and her father in law, Douglas K. MacMillan. She was the sister of the late Barbara Hunter who died as an infant and her beloved brother Bob Hunter of Lunenburg.
Luanne's family will receive relatives and friends at calling hours from 4-7 PM Friday, July 18, 2025 at the Anderson Funeral Home, 25 Fitchburg Road, (Rte 2A) Ayer.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM Saturday, July 19, 2025 at United Parish of Lunenburg, 16 Main Street, Lunenburg. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to the American Cancer Society.
