Lucia (Brothers) Hendershott, 94, of Niles, died peacefully Wednesday, March 11,2026 in the comfort of her family's presence. Her life began May 10, 1931 in Niles, Michigan, the fifth of six children born to Edward and Cecelia Brothers. Lucia Brothers attended Niles High School until 1948 when she married Ralph W. Hendershott November 13, in Saint Joseph Michigan.
She had several careers, she was a waitress, cook for Associates Lodge and worked as a lab technician for the USDA in Niles. Lucia had special times traveling with her mother and daughter to Ireland, Hawaii and Las Vegas. She particularly enjoyed Siegfried and Roy and Liberace.
Lucia had fun visiting casinos, playing lottery and bingo. She could often be found putting together puzzles with her last puzzle being just this last summer. Lucia kept track of her out of state family and friends by writing letters. She especially loved spending time with her family.
Lucia will be greatly missed by family and friends. She is survived by one son, Ralph W. (Suzette) Hendershott jr. of Buchanan; two grandchildren, Levi (Monica) Hendershott of Portage, Carisa (Randy) Simpson of Niles; three great grandchildren, Ginger Hendershott, Devon Simpson, Esme Simpson and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Ralph W. Hendershott, daughter, Janet Hendershott, two brothers and three sisters.
Family and friends will gather Monday, March 16, 2026 10:00 A.M. until the time of her Mass at 11:00 A.M in St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 219 South State Street, Niles. Lucia will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband and daughter, in Silverbrook Cemetery. The family prefers contributions in memory of Lucia be made to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception and St. Jude 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
