Luciano Sannino, age 92, died on 3 Dec 2024 in his community of 30 years, Port St Lucie Florida.
He is survived by his loving family, nephew Joseph Gallo (Theresa), niece Angela Javed (Simon), niece Rosanna Sannino (Alberto), nephews Jimmy O'Neill (Cinzia) and Michael O'Neill (Lino), niece Gina Smith (George), sister-in-law Virginia O'Neill, and many adoring great-nephews, great-nieces, and godchildren. Preceded by wife Rosaria, brothers Antonio and Michael, sister Lucia Gallo, and great-niece Marianne.
Luciano was born in Torre Del Greco, Italy, a beautiful town near Naples located at the base of the famous Mt Vesuvius volcano, to loving parents Luciano and Rosa Sannino. The onset of WW2 separated him from his family, who had come to America to start a new life as did so many Italians and European neighbors. He would eventually join them and meet a beautiful young girl named Rosaria in his new hometown of Newark, NJ. They would be happily married for the next 58 years until her passing in 2014 after a long illness.
Luciano started an electronics career in the 1950's working for Lionel on Model Trains, which would lead him to a lifelong love of electronics and a side job repairing TV's. "Uncle Lou" would love to take his very young nephews, Joe and Jimmy, with him on repair jobs to help test tubes and work together on TV's. Unbeknownst to him, he would transfer that love of electronics to the boys, who grew up to have their own careers in Electronics Engineering.
"Louie" joined the US Post Office as a letter carrier and for the next 30 years delivered mail in the proverbial snow and sleet and rain though various routes in Newark. He earned multiple awards and recognition over his long career and never missed a day of delivering the mail. Retiring in 1992, he and Rose moved to Port St Lucie, Florida soon after to begin their journey as retirees in the sunshine state.
Beyond the love of family, joining friends at the Elks Lodge, and a longtime member of the Sons of Italy, he was dedicated to the church through The Knights of Columbus, earning the prestigious and patriotic 4th Degree Knighthood. He had a deep love for the Yankees, never missed soccer games from Italy and watching Naples Team be champions again, but his true passion was watching Professional Wrestling which he did religiously until his last days. He would constantly be on his phone, IPAD, or 70 inch TV cheering the good guys, or ranting how the referee's never see anything! loud enough for the neighbors to also enjoy because his hearing wasn't exactly perfect anymore!
Mass will be held at St Lucie Catholic Church on Friday, 31 Jan, at 0900. He will be interred next to his loving wife at Rolling Oaks Cemetery so they can be together again, burial service at 1100 AM, with a repass to follow at Olive Garden on 10221 SW Meeting St, Port St. Lucie, FL 34987
