Lucille Curley Herrera
February 20, 1940 - March 20, 2026
Lucille Herrera was born February 20, 1940, in Two Grey Hills, NM. She passed away peacefully at home on March 20, 2026.
She is survived by her sons, Lorne (Sharon) Ahkee, and Jared Ahkee; daughters, Leah Ahkee, and Latisha (Leo) Padilla; her sisters, Mary (Art) Davis, Emma Albert, and Elsie Albert; and brothers, Emerson Albert and Emmett Valenski.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Irene Rose Albert, husband, Johnson Herrera, and daughter, Carmelita Albert.
Lucille was raised in Hospa, NM. She graduated from Ft. Wingate HS. After high school, Lucille moved to Los Angeles, California where she would continue her education to become a dental assistant. Lucille eventually moved back to New Mexico settling in Cuba NM where she raised her children. Lucille worked at the local clinic as a dental assistant.
She was also a devoted member of the Cuba Baptist Church. Lucille then moved to Ojo Encino with her husband, Johnson Herrera. Whether in Cuba or Ojo Encino she was active in her community. In Ojo Encino, Lucille found joy in working with the seniors at the senior center, encouraging activities that promoted health awareness within the community. Lucille became involved in the local chapter house where she would serve as secretary treasurer for four years.
Throughout her lifetime Lucille enjoyed various leisure activities. She was an excellent seamstress. She enjoyed reading her bible, crocheting/knitting, cooking and watching over her grandchildren when needed. Late in life Lucille moved to Rio Rancho NM to be cared for by her children and grandchildren.
Her family, friends, and many who knew Lucille will miss her bright smile, hearing her laughter, and listening to her many stories and memories.
Lucille's family would like to thank you all for your heartfelt prayers, thoughts, and helpful contributions. You are welcome and encouraged to share your prayers, thoughts, and memories below.
Services will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH- Westside Chapel.
