Lucille H. Johnson, age 100, of Willmar, passed away Monday, June 2, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. followed by her celebration of life service at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 9, at Svea Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Peterson Brothers Funeral Home. www.petersonbrothers.com
Lucille Helen Johnson was born on June 3, 1924, at home on a farm in Edwards Township, Kandiyohi County, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Minnie (Spieker) Gieseke. She grew up in Raymond, was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church and attended school in Raymond. Lucille did housework for neighbors, worked in a restaurant and at Rice Memorial Hospital in the laundry department.
On May 9, 1945, Lucille was united in marriage to Oral C. Johnson at St. John's Lutheran Church in Raymond. They lived and farmed in Whitefield Township near Svea for over 50 years. Later they joined Svea Lutheran Church in Svea. She was an active member of her church, serving on flower committee, alter guild, and women's bible study.
Lucille worked hard as a homemaker and farmwife. She later drove the school bus for district #55. She enjoyed gardening, canning foods, quilting, playing card games, dancing, reading, doing puzzles and riding bike. She belonged to a sewing group, bowling league and the 50 club for many years.
She is survived by three sons, Darrell (and Sharon) Johnson of Kandiyohi, Dean (and Pam) Johnson of Eau Claire, WI., and Randy (and Lynn) Johnson of Willmar; twelve grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, Floyd Gieseke of Minneapolis; and a daughter-in-law, Lois (and Terry) Shaw of Willmar; besides many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Oral; one son, Dalton; one daughter, Marilyn; two sisters, Inez Duenow and Hazel Peffer; and three brothers, Milton, Clarence and Gordon Gieseke.
