Luke,

This candle is lit in memory of the first anniversary of your passing on to Heaven.

March 30, 2010

Dear Reid Family,

My dear friend, Luke, has been Home for nearly a year now; and there is not a day that goes by that I don't think of Luke, miss Luke, and pray for Luke and his immediate family. Luke was so well loved by others, myself included, that his extended family was almost without end. So, I pray for Luke's extended family, too.

Luke, I miss your laughter, your smile, your guidance and your friendship. I miss your daily email messages, and your booming voice. Heck, there is not one darned thing about you that I do not miss! I just hope that Heaven appreciates you as much as I do.

Luke's spirit is with me always and has become part of me.

Luke, you will live forever both in Heaven and my heart!

I will love you always. Thank you for some of the best times of my life.

Robb & The Reid Family,

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and all of your family. Your Dad would always bring a smile to all he came in contact with. We loved to listen to him and my dad when Rob and my brother C.P. played baseball at U of R. We were always laughing and having a great time. I know that he will always be in your hearts. As the days past, the thought of your Dad will bring a smile to your face or tears to your eyes. Just know that the comfort that you will receive from God, you in turn can comfort each other.
Keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. God Bless you.

Thinking of you,

To the Reid family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Big Luke. He was a great man and will be dearly missed. I had the good fortune of knowing him since our little league and middle school days. I think back and remember one of the biggest and most supportive fans of Tucker athletics, both while I was there and after. I can still hear that voice from up on the hill cheering Luke and “Robo” at our baseball games. Mine and my mother’s thoughts are with your family during this difficult period. Time will ease the pain of his loss, but the memories will never fade.
With deepest sympathy

Dear Mary,Luke,Sean,Rob and Colleen

Lucius was such a dear and special person, and on more than one occasion he helped and supported me. I don't really think that I could have managed without talking to him on a daily basis when Rick was in the hospital and unresponsive. Without his humor and understanding, those days would have been long indeed. I feel grateful to have known him, and he will be missed. Please know that my thoughts are with you all.

Much love, Judy

Dear Mary and family,
Michele and I are greatly saddened by your loss of Luke. We were classmates at SS. Peter & Paul School. He was a study in courage in coping with the negative realities of life. Through it all he retained his infectious sense of humor.
It was a joyous occasion to have had dinner with you and Luke on the 31st of March. We're so appreciative that our last memory with Luke was filled with laughter, great stories, and friendship.
Heartfelt Condolences,

Rick Barry

April 4, 2009

Dear Mary, Luke, Rob, Sean and Colleen,

My friendship with your husband and father began with the first week of September in 1948, on the first day of first grade. It has continued undiminished through the years to the present.

Lucius has been a constant in my life. He has always been there, and I can't imagine that there will not be another phone call, or email, or visit between us…that there will be no more shared laughs or confidences, no more shared Red Sox victories or defeats…no more emotional reassurances or shared grandparent joys.

My heart is broken, and I presumptuously suffer his loss with you all.

My love and sympathy goes out to you, and my gratitude for having been Lucius's friend for all these years remains to console me at this time of loss.

With love and affection, I extend to you my deepest and sincerest condolences.

I worked with Luke for many many years at Royal Oldsmobile, and I truly thought the world of him. Luke was so full of joy and enthusiasm; he seemed to really savor life. He called me "Pretty Jo"...and I loved him for being so sweet. I can still hear his voice reading 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' and singing Christmas songs, as he always did for the children at Royal's Christmas parties. Luke was a very special man whose larger than life personality infected those who knew him with happiness.

Luke3, I can't express the tremendous sorrow I feel. May peace and comfort be with you and your family during this difficult time.

I met Luke when he came to the writers' group we formed in Richmond. He was a passionate writer of poetry, and we loved hearing him read his verses out loud to our group. He had a wonderful sense of humor, too.

My sincere condolences to his family. His passing is a terrible loss for you. He was such a wonderful man that there is no doubt he is resting now with God.

April 3, 2009

Luke was our family's first friend at St. Mike's as he sat behind us every Sunday at the 11 when we first started to venture forth years ago into the main seating area from behind the pews. We didn't know anybody, and with three small children, we were very self-conscious regarding the amount of noise or disturbance our children would make. But Luke in his grandfatherly grace put us quickly at ease and gave our girls someone they could look forward to seeing at Mass each week. And as our family grew and the move to the 9 became inevitable, our greatest regret was that we would no longer see Luke every week. But whenever we would happen to cross paths, our girls would leap in sheer delight at the chance to make a smile jump across the face of one of the first men they ever knew. Especially whenever it was close to their birthdays and they would receive his witty cards. And of course, Luke's humorous emails came regularly, always bringing a smile to the day. Goodbye Luke and may God guide you home. We will truly miss you, and will continue to pray for you and your family.

Several years ago, a few of us started a writer's group that met regularly at Borders on Broad Street. Luke was very active in our first few meetings. His poetry was lovely, enhanced by his deep reading voice. His was a beautiful talent, and he will be missed.

Rob, Braxton called me last night to break the news. Your dad was quite a man and I'm grateful to have known him. I still remember meeting you, your dad and Luke for the first time when we were 8 at the first practice for the Skipwith Tiger pee wee football team. There have been a ton of memories since then, and I don't remember any but good ones that your dad was a part of. I used to love to visit your dad's office at Royal when he and dad worked together and just shoot the breeze. Our loss is most certainly heaven's gain. Mrs. Reid, you and the family are in my prayers.

I do love you all,
Cris

Our deepest sympathies to the Reid Family. Luke was a very big part of our family and life growing up in the 80's in Richmond from coaching little league with our late father, Nicolo, to the many cars we purchased at Royal Oldsmobile from him. Although it's been several years since we last saw Luke, he will be dearly missed by all of us.

To the Reid Family,

Please know that we are so sorry to hear of the loss of such a great person. He touched so many people's hearts. We will always remember how he would use that voice of his to make everyone smile. He always made me smile when I seen him coming. I know Rob can remember Mr. Reid coming by U of R to ride us around campus as he sang "Lost in the Fifties Tonight". Those memories will stick with me forever. May the love of friends and family carry you through your these tough times. We Love You guys!

Reid family,
I'm sure you have no idea who I am, but I would like to express my condolences for your loss. Mr. Reid was a profound member of my high school softball career at JR Tucker High School not only as an announcer, but as a friend and role model. I remember when he was forced to take a leave from announcing and it just didn't feel the same on the field for those next few games. Again, I am very sorry for your loss and for the next girls softball team that will not have the experience of such a great man.

Sincerely,
Katie Griffin and the JR Tucker Softball Team from 2000-2004

Rob:

C.P. sent me a note about your Dad's passing. My deepest sympathies to you and your family. I told C.P. that for the last 15 years I've kept a baseball on my bookshelf in my law office. The ball has a great story.

On St. Patrick's Day 1989 (20 years ago this month), your Dad and I were in our usual spot, watching a game at Pitt Field while enjoying a beer in X Lot. Midway through the game, somebody (let's just say Malloy cause he was the only who hit in '89) jacked one out. I picked it up and your Dad and I proudly perched it on the bumper of my truck. As the game dragged on (I think C.P. issued 27 of his 154 career walks that day), your Dad and I enjoyed a great St. Patrick's Day. One of the best actually.

Being somewhat of an emotional sap, and realizing that my days at UR and Pitt Field were fading, I asked your Dad to sign the homerun ball for me. It reads:

"Frankie, Thanks for the St. Patrick's Day Beers, Cool Hand Luke 3-17-89"

I'm not sure why I have held on to it for all of these years or why it has held such a prominent spot in my office, but I can assure you that it will proudly stay there now as a symbol of good times and a great man.

God bless Rob.

Dear Mary and Family,

Thank you for sharing your Luke with me. Luke was my lectoring mentor; and in that capacity, I came to know a generous and loving man whom I loved in return. It was my privilege and honor to get to know Luke; and through him, his family of whom Luke spoke highly (and incessantly).

I realize that few words will console you at this time; however, I do offer my deepest sympathies to you. I pray that the Grace and Mercy of God will carry you through your time of sorrow; as I pray that Our God receives Luke into His Heavenly Kingdom.

Luke, my dear friend, I will always love you and I will miss your wit and charm forever.

Mary, our deepest and most heartfelt condolences go out to you and your entire family at this time of such great loss. We will always treasure the memories that we have of Luke and how he touched so many lives with his laughter and sense of humor. I still remember when you and he took us to Rare Olde Times and his singing and laughter filled the entire room. We talk about legacy’s what we wish to leave for our children and grandchildren; well Luke’s life, his love and passion for his family is his greatest one. I will never forget walking up my son’s driveway on Sunday nights and glancing over into your dinning room windows and seeing Luke setting there at the head of the table with his loved ones. Well he is in heaven now sitting at God’s table with the angels telling his stories. God bless.

Love,
Dave and Sheila
