With deep sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Lucy (Lucia) DiStefano Calisto on October 13, 2025. She was surrounded by her devoted family.
Born in San Giuliano, Italy, Lucia's life was a testament to quiet strength, enduring love, and boundless generosity. She married her beloved husband, Enzo Calisto, in her hometown in 1962 before immigrating to the United States in 1964 to join him in Massachusetts. Together, they built a life in Brockton, where they raised their three daughters and remained until 1999.
Lucia began her career in Brockton sewing women's clothing in a local factory, later becoming a master seamstress in boutique wedding shops where she stitched countless bridal gowns and formal dresses. She eventually opened her own home business, Alterations by Lucia, where her talent made her a trusted name in the community.
After retiring, Lucia devoted her life to caring for her grandchildren. She changed diapers on the floor, played games, prepared countless meals, and passed down life lessons. Her presence was a steady source of comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her life and love revolved around her family and friends, whose roots extended from Italy to Canada to Massachusetts and North Carolina.
Lucia was also deeply devoted to her faith. Every night, without fail, she would say her rosary. Her faith was not just a ritual but a quiet force that guided her actions, shaped her values, and offered comfort in times of joy and sorrow.
For Lucia, food was love, which showed in the elaborate meals she prepared for her family. Each dish was a symbol of care, tradition, and togetherness.
She has joined her husband in Heaven and is lovingly remembered by her daughters Marietta Calisto-Cooney, Josephine Calisto, and Tina Calisto-Betti; her son-in-law Robert Cooney; and her treasured grandchildren: Austin Cooney, Patrick Cooney, Robert Cooney, Calisto Betti, Lucca Betti, and Isabella Scafidi.
A period of visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 4 pm to 7 pm at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, 373 Court Street, Plymouth. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 10:30 am at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 86 Court Street, Plymouth. The interment will follow the Funeral Mass at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Summer Street, Plymouth.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Peter's Church, 10 Memorial Drive, Plymouth, MA 02360.
