Lucy Cox Obituary

Lucy Costner Cox

September 4, 1928 - January 7, 2024

Rock Hill, South Carolina - Rock Hill, SC - Lucy peacefully departed this life on January 7, 2024. Lucy was born September 4, 1928 and lived all her 95 years of life in York County, SC. She was the daughter of the late Porter A. Costner and Estelle Peake Costner. Lucy was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold L. Cox, Sr.; two brothers, Irwin Costner and Ornan Costner; and five sisters, Gloria C. Proctor, Mittie C. Fudge, Marge C. Smith, Elsie C. King, and Phyllis C. Mendenhall

Lucy was a resident of Harbor Chase Assisted Living on Constitution Blvd. and her welcoming smile eased the fears of many who was leaving their home to come to Harbor Chase Assisted Living. She was also active in events of auxiliary groups at the National Guard Armory and the Shriners. She was a member of the Silver Fox travel Club. Lucy worked for many years as an Office Manager and later at Harbor Chase. Her favorite activity was spending time with her family, both immediate and extended, and she especially loved cooking for them. It was a custom for her to have a house full of happy diners for lunch on Sunday. She was especially known for her delicious mac and cheese and beef stew. Every challenge was met with a smile and an attitude to overcome it.

Services for Lucy will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road with the Reverend Wayne Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Lucy is survived by her children, Brenda C. Tolton (Patrick), Jenice C. Sadler (Hope), both of Rock Hill, and Harold L. Cox, Jr. of Charleston, and a sister, Joyce C. Brown of Rock Hill.

Five grandchildren, Lynette S. Fong (Anthony), David H. Sadler IV, Elizabeth (Beth) S. Rossomanno (Franco), Leslie C. Roads (Steve), and Lanny Cox (Audrey), All of Rock Hill. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Brenda, I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing, but rejoice with you of her sweet loving life. I can hear her contagious laugh when you laugh! I pray that you will rest knowing that were a good daughter that did all what you did because you loved your mom.
