Lucy Felux Kolodzie
May 21, 1925 - December 29, 2024
Lucy's remarkable life of 99 years came to an end on December 29, 2024. She lived her whole life in great faith and selfless service. She would want to be remembered for her kindness, loyalty, and generosity.
Lucy was born on the family farm in Panna Maria, Texas. Like her seven brothers and sisters, she was humble, hard-working, and resourceful. The early years during the Depression were difficult, as they were for so many living off the land, but Lucy found ways to support herself and her family. She met her sweetheart from Falls City, Texas, Stanley Kolodzie, at a country dance. They married in 1947 and shared a full and interesting life. She was so grateful to become part of Stanley's large and wonderful Kolodzie family. Lucy and Stanley had five children and raised them in several places in Texas and New Mexico, frequently moving for Stanley's job with the federal government. For a number of years in Houston, Lucy worked outside the home. She was a fast learner and highly respected and loved by co-workers in her jobs, managing a dress shop and working in customer service at a bank.
Lucy and Stanley returned to their beloved Falls City after retirement. The years in Falls City were many of the happiest for them, where they were part of the fabric of the community and their parish at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The two also had a small cattle operation, with Lucy working as a capable partner side-by-side with Stanley. A favorite role of Lucy's was giving each cow a name.
Lucy and Stanley shared life together for sixty-five years until he passed in 2012. Lucy devoted her life to her husband and her children. It was always important to her to make a warm and beautiful home wherever the family lived. Lucy was a wonder in the kitchen - a necessity with a big family. Her fried chicken, chicken noodle soup with homemade noodles, and desserts were legendary. She generously shared her gift by cooking untold numbers of meals for those in the community, especially through the Holy Trinity Church Altar Society. She was passionate about her gardening; she was a great lover of animals and cherished her dog companions. Lucy was also an amazing seamstress and quilter, and the quilts that she made for her children and her grandchildren are treasured. She also made many lap quilts for the residents of the Veterans Home in Floresville, Texas.
Home was a place of much laughter and many delightful games of cards and dominoes, and Lucy was an excellent domino player, especially 42. She had so much fun playing 42 with her friends in Falls City, but her favorite memories were the many fun nights of 42 competition, with sister-in-law Pat as her partner against Stanley and his brother Nicky.
The most important thing to Lucy was her faith. Her Catholic faith was the foundation and center of her life. She volunteered in many ways at Holy Trinity Church for decades, and you could always see her at Sunday and several weekday masses. She was most proud when Stanley became a Deacon in the Catholic Church. She attended most of the classes with him and stood by Stanley's side on every step of his path to becoming a Deacon. Her faith gave her great comfort, and Lucy prayed the rosary often, in later years in Polish.
Lucy made her home in New Haven Assisted Living and Memory Care in Floresville, Texas for the last part of her life. The residents and staff became like family to her. Lucy's children are so grateful to those at New Haven for the loving care they gave to their mother.
Warm and loving memories of Lucy are carried by her children, Elaine Butler (spouse Chris Butler); Stanley Kolodzie, Jr. (spouse Suzanne Gross); Sharon Brown (spouse Tom Brown); Michael Kolodzie; and Annette Kolodzie (spouse Karen Jones); and her grandchildren, Colin Butler (spouse Aimee Bertrand), Katie Kolodzie, and Kristie Kolodzie.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 11th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Falls City. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. with the Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00 a.m. also at the church. Burial will follow at the Falls City Cemetery.
