Lucy Mone Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maiorano Funeral Home - Waterbury on Nov. 4, 2024.
Cherished Her Family
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Lucy (Leopizzo) Mone on Friday, November 1, 2024, four days before her 98th birthday.
Born in Waterbury, Lucy was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Maria (Petrosina) Leopizzo. Lucy was married to Edmond Mone, Sr. but became a young widow at the age of 41 and chose to never marry again. Eleven years ago, Lucy moved to Thomaston to live with her son Edmond and daughter-in-law Eileen, in their home.
Before her retirement, Lucy worked as an inspection supervisor at Holgrath Corporation for many years and took pride in her job, speaking of it numerous times during her lifetime.
Lucy enjoyed family vacations, casino trips, and doing word games. Most of all, she loved her large family dinners and always made her cookie platters filled with delicious Italian cookies and treats.
A sociable lady, Lucy enjoyed talking to anyone with whom she came in contact, whether she knew them or not. She then considered them friends. Lucy was a faithful parishioner of St. Michael's Church in Waterbury attending Sunday Mass until a few years ago. She then enjoyed the daily mass on TV and seldom missed a day.
In addition to Ed and Eileen, Lucy leaves six grandchildren, Christina, John, Steven, Jaime, Colleen, and Nicole; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She also leaves her sister, Louise Cray of NC as well as several nieces and nephews, particularly Maria and Donna. Lucy was pre-deceased by her sister Florence Shea and her brothers Jim, Louis, and Peter Leopizzo.
We will forever miss and repeat her favorite way of cussing by saying, "Oh Schnit," "Pain in the Ankle," "Shoot and Bunny Waggles," and "Son of a Seacook Basket," and yes, "She was a Good Egg."
Lucy's family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Litchfield County for the excellent care given to Lucy and to them during the last few months.
Lucy's funeral will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 9:00am at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury with a calling hour from 9:00 -10:00am. A prayer service will be held from 10:00 – 10:30am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Per Lucy's request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lucy's name may be made to: The Office of Radio & Television, 15 Peach Orchard Rd., Prospect, CT 06712. She did not like me at first. Then we loved each other. She was my aunt too.

A number of years ago my phone rang and I saw that the call was from Aunt Lucy. She was calling because she was concerned that something had happened to me because she had not received my Christmas card yet and my card was the first one she received every year before anyone else´s.
