Eva Sills
Mrs. Eva (Orsatti) Sills, age 93, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in the VITAS wing at Saint Mary's Hospital. She was the loving wife of the late Earl A. Sills.
Born in Waterbury on April 22, 1932, Eva was the daughter of the late Peter and Angelina (Rossi) Orsatti. She lived her entire life in Waterbury, never having a desire to be anywhere else. From her deck, she could see the home in which she was born, just one street over. Home was her center, and she was never far from it.
She was a graduate of Leavenworth High School, Class of 1950. When asked by her mother what she wanted to be when she grew up, she simply replied, "a mother," and said she hoped to have eight children. She embraced and lived that vocation to the fullest. Her pure love was manifested in many ways: nurturing her family with home-cooked meals each day, maintaining a beautiful home, and reassuring her family in times of need that "everything happens for a reason." Her entire life revolved around her family and her home. She was also a skilled seamstress and worked at several local bridal shops. Devout in her faith, Eva was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.
Eva was a gifted artist and gardener, surrounding her home with beautiful flower gardens. Strong in body, mind, spirit, and will, she was a model for her family in many ways, teaching her children and grandchildren that "Nothing is difficult with a willing heart."
Left to honor and treasure her memory are her beloved eight children: Lori Sills of Waterbury, Gary (Jean Sidwell) Sills of Boca Raton, FL, Mark (Carol) Sills of Marshfield, MA, David (Lori) Sills of Bristol, Richard (Robin) Sills of Prospect, Karen (Edward) Costa of Waterbury, Ronald (Diane) Sills of Waterbury, and Jennifer (Garrett) Stack of Waterbury; and her beloved 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. During her final days, while surrounded by her family, Eva told them, "I will leave you laughing."
She also leaves her sisters-in-law Lucille Orsatti and Elinor Sills as well as several generations of nieces and nephews and a large extended family. In addition to her one and only love of her life, her husband of 71 years, Earl, Eva was predeceased by her siblings, Theresa Moore, Mae Sills, Peter Orsatti, Jr., and Diana Orsatti.
Eva's funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 785 Highland Ave., Waterbury. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at church. Calling hours will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury.
