Mrs. Lucy Mithchell Sylver, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, peacefully entered eternal rest on October 6, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on May 25, 1938, in Wilson, North Carolina, she was the cherished daughter of the late Wiley and Verell Mitchell. From an early age, she exemplified kindness, diligence, and a heart for service, qualities that defined her throughout her life.

On May 17, 1958, she was united in holy matrimony to Mr. Lonnie Sylver, her devoted husband of 55 years. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and faith. Their union was blessed with four wonderful children: Larry (Lynnese) Sylver, Beverly (Brian) Bolden, Yolanda (William) McKinney, and Karen (Fathy) Ebrahim.

Mrs. Sylver's joy extended to her grandchildren - Leland, Leah, Larissa, Megan, William, Aliyah, Mohamed, Hafsah, Ruqayah, Zaneb - and to precious great-grandchildren - Leland Jr., Landon, Micah, and Xavier.

A woman of steadfast faith, Mrs. Sylver was an active member of Third Baptist Church until she joined her husband at Calvary Baptist Church in Newport News. Following his passing, she returned to Third Baptist, where she continued to serve the Lord in many capacities with humility and grace.

Mrs. Sylver dedicated over 40 years to the retail industry, where she was admired for her reliability, warmth, merchandise skills, and dedication to training others. After retirement, she joyfully embraced a new season of life, supporting church activities, baking, gardening, and traveling to visit and care for family members. Her homemade treats, radiant smile, and gentle spirit blessed everyone she met.

Mrs. Sylver's life is reflected in the summary of Proverbs 31: "The virtuous woman's strength, wisdom, and godly character bring honor to her family and glory to God."

Mrs. Sylver is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Mr. Lonnie Sylver; her parents, Wiley and Verell Mitchell; her sisters, Vera Latimer and Easter Mitchell; and her brothers, William (WT) and Lawrence Mitchell.

Mrs. Sylver is survived by her four children and three sisters, Shirley Marshall, Dollie (Walter) Black, and Millie Edmundson.

Mrs. Sylver will be remembered by her loving family, devoted friends, and the church communities she served. Though she is absent from the body, she is present with the Lord-rejoicing in the eternal presence of her Savior.

Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Cooke Bros. Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 13, 2025 at Third Baptist Church. Entombment will be in Hampton Memorial Gardens.
