Ludema Helen LaFleur

OPELOUSAS- A Funeral Service will be held for Ludema Helen Lafleur on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel of Opelousas. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Sylvester Murphy of Cornerstone International Ministry in Ville Platte will conduct the funeral service. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington.

Ludema Thistlethwaite Lafleur, passed away peacefully at her home October 18th 2023, just 3 days after her 84th birthday surrounded by her loving family.  

Ludema was born in Opelousas, La. on October 15th 1939 to Lawrence and Eloise Ortego Thistlethwaite. She graduated from OHS and was a member of various organizations in and around Opelousas. She was beautiful inside an out and on January 27th 1959 she married her sweetheart Ronald A. Lafleur in 1959. Ludema was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her home was open to any and everyone and her meals were to die for. Ludema loved to travel, sew, hunt, fish and be surrounded by her loving family and friends.

Ludema will be missed terribly here but we know that her heavenly welcome when she met Ronald was with a “hey little mama I missed you!” And a huge hug from Ron.

Please keep her family in your prayers as they have been through so much grief in just a few short years.

She is survived by her four daughters: India Andrepont (Brent), Stephanie Stevens (Johnny), Melissa Duhon, Dona Collins (Bryant “Tiger”) and her daughter-in-law Kimbra Lafleur, her brother Leigh Thistlethwaite along with Dorothy and Ethel Johnson who were a huge part of the family.

She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Dana D. Luna (Anthony), Hannah Saucier (Jacob), Steven Duhon (Amanda), Dustin Duhon, Mamie Harris (Marshall), Emily Warren (Lee), Sarah Thibodeaux (Wesley), Tucker Collins (Harley), Brooke Collins (Pace), & Katie Collins. Nineteen great grandchildren who all loved visiting their Maw Maw: Mikey Galindo, Ivory Luna, Jordan Luna, Grace Luna, Avery Collins, Razzi Duhon, Jacelyn Collins, Brantley Collins, Evan Saucier, Aspen Duhon, Jolie Duhon, Paisleigh Collins, Porter Warren, Blakelyn Collins, Aria Savoie, Atleigh Harris, Farrar Warren, Tiger Collins, Hazel Savoie and Teurling Warren. Three Step Great grandchildren Karter, Hayes, and Brennan Halliburton and One Great-Great Grandchild Stefan Ortego and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Lawrence and Eloise Ortego Thistlethwaite, her husband Dr. Ronald A. Lafleur, Sr. and her only Son Ronald (Ron) A. Lafleur, Jr. and her brother Lawrence Thistlethwaite II.

Escorting Ludema to her final resting place will be Steven Duhon, Dustin Duhon, Tucker Collins, Mikey Galindo, Jordan Luna, Lawrence Thistlethwaite III, Lee Warren and Wesley Thibodeaux.
