Nancy LaFleur Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heeney-Sundquist Funeral Home - Farmington on Jan. 31, 2026.
It is with supreme sadness that we announce Nancy Jean LaFleur, former resident of Livonia and Novi, made her transition peacefully on January 2, 2026, at the age of 80.

Nancy is survived by her two daughters, Janine (Dave) Bauer and Julienne (Jim) La Fleur; her sister Emma Ford; her nieces and nephew, Loretta (Rob) Salzano Vanni, Corene Ford, Monica (John) Ligerakis, and Greg Salzano; Kirsten Molloy whom she thought of as a daughter, and her one-and-only favorite grandson Orrin Bauer!

Not only was she the best mom in the whole wide world, Nancy was an incredible everything--friend, aunt, grandma, sister, boss, co-worker, and neighbor. Her sparkling presence, wonderful wit, and joie di vivre nature inspired all who knew her.

Nancy grew up in Detroit with her parents Ted and Ann Kermou and graduated from Cooley High. At 19 she met a handsome guy named Ted LaFleur who stole her heart. They had two daughters and although they parted ways in1984, they remained friends to the end.

Nancy was deeply proud of her career. Her first major accomplishment was opening the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn. At the time it was a centerpiece of Detroit culture, where she rubbed elbows with stars like Phyllis Diller, Tom Jones, and even President Ford! Her career flourished when she opened The Renaissance Club in Downtown Detroit for the Club Corporation of America, then was promoted to a Marketing and Sales Director and worked across the country from Texas to Alaska.

After many years at CCA, she ended up working at a hotel in Fort Lauderdale, where she fell in love with the warm weather and the love of her life, Chris Gran. She hung up her career hat, decided to live on his boat, and they sailed up and down the East Coast, through the Keys, and in the Bahamas.

Nancy eventually returned to Michigan and spent the last twenty years working, grandma-ing, travelling and lunching with the ladies-through her kindness, generosity and sassy fun, she cultivated a lifetime of wonderful and cherished friendships.

Entertaining and decorating were her passions--Martha Stewart could have learned a thing or two from Fancy Nancy! She had impeccable taste, an eye for art, and a talent for curating a classy but homey place.

Even lung cancer did not slow this independent go-getter down. Up until October she enjoyed working at a home décor store.

Her friends referred to her as "the energizer bunny", as her optimism, and non-stop vitality always shone brightly. Although we will miss everything about her here, heaven has a new star now, to love and embrace, who will most likely give those many rooms in that house above a makeover.

Please join us in celebrating this fabulous lady on February 21, at the funeral home. Her family will greet friends beginning at 10:00am followed by a memorial service at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers please donate in Nancy's name to either, Unicef or Autism Alliance of Michigan. Please use the links provided to make all donations.

Please keep the LaFleur family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
