Luis V. Hernandez Jr., affectionately known as "Wicho," was born on August 9, 1958, in Brownsville, Texas, to parents Luis Hernandez and Celia Hernandez. He passed away peacefully at his home in Olmito, Texas, on April 19, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Luis was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather who cherished his time with family above all else. Growing up in the Las Prietas Varrio neighborhood, he developed a resilient work ethic, becoming a migrant worker at a young age and traveling across the United States. Wicho had a deep love for rock and roll and Tejano music, sharing his passion for these genres with those around him. He lived life fully, enjoying every moment until his final breath. Whether it was his enthusiasm for comics, sports, his scratch off lottery tickets and numbers, trips to Lake Charles and Eagle Pass, Luis always found joy in his pursuits. He enjoyed seeing his grandchildren dance to music during family gatherings, as laughter and stories filled the air. He loved sharing moments of fun and companionship, especially when exploring casinos with his beloved wife. His enduring kindness and unwavering support made him a cornerstone for his family. Driving through Las Prietas to reconnect with his roots was a cherished ritual. Luis's spirit of love and commitment as a father and family man lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Luis leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion, survived by his beloved wife, Aurora Hernandez. He is remembered fondly by his children: Luis Hernandez III with his wife Noemi, Daniel Hernandez and his wife Melissa, and Crystal Hernandez-Nogueira and her husband Johnathan Nogueira. His cherished grandchildren include Daniel Jessie Hernandez, Melanie Amaro, Anahi Amaro, Johnathan Nogueira Jr., Leah Aurora Hernandez, Gilbert Luis Hernandez, Luis Hernandez IV, Jesus Santos Hernandez, Isaac James Nogueira, Lexi Avani Nogueira, and Angelica Noemi Hernandez. His son Jessie Hernandez, who preceded him in death, is lovingly remembered and sorely missed.
Luis is also survived by his siblings, who hold him dearly in their hearts. His sisters Irma Peralez and Leticia Muniz, along with his brothers Santiago Hernandez, Enrique Hernandez, Victor Hernandez, and Domingo Hernandez, mourn his loss and celebrate his life.
