Luke Frederick Kehret, 28, of Nashua, IA, was born in East Lansing, Michigan on December 6, 1996. He attended school in Nashua and Charles City, IA, participating in band and track, and graduating in 2016. Luke lived on the wild side, always ready for the next adventure (which often involved a lifted diesel truck!) He was active in both Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, achieving the Life Scout rank and receiving the Order of the Arrow. He went on to work three summers as a lifeguard at Camp Ingawanis near Waverly.
Luke died December 7th, 2024, after a long battle with addiction. He had a caring heart and looked for the good in everyone he met, but he also battled personal demons, turning to drugs to block out the pain. Time in correction centers and treatment programs brought temporary reprieves from the addiction cycle, but eventually the lure of drugs would resurface, and ultimately claim his life. His drug use caused suffering not only for him, but for his family and friends as well, something that is all too common in our society. By acknowledging the circumstances of his death, we hope to help shed light on this epidemic and encourage advancements in mental health treatment of substance abuse rather than mandated incarceration for the criminal activity it perpetuates.
Luke is survived by his loving parents, Dan and June Kehret, of Nashua; and a sister, Torie (Rory) Strippel, of Waterloo; as well as numerous relatives, friends, and his beloved yellow lab "Sargent." A celebration of life is planned for spring, with burial in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, rural Nashua.

Sending heart felt sympathy to your family. I don't know your family but share losing someone also to the tragedy of what drugs do to our loved ones. Please people reading this. Never turn to drugs. Your problems will only get worse. Reach out for help so your family doesn't endure the heart ache this poor family is going through. May the good Lord embrace you and hold you close and comfort you at this difficult time. RIP Luke and all who have gone before you and may others see your story and face reality and reach out for help. Thank you for sharing his life story. You were very brave. Hugs to you all that are hurting so much. It's very difficult.

I am so sorry for your loss. I want to thank you for your bravery in shining a light on this cause. We too have a son in the same circumstances and understand that sometimes love is not enough. Perhaps ,because of you and your son, better understanding and better programs will become available.
