Lukera Kauta

WATERFORD Lukera "Lucy" Kauta, 100, entered into eternal life Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Collar City Nursing and Rehab. in Troy.
Born Aug. 26, 1923 in Ukraine, she immigrated to the United States in 1950 following the War. The family first lived in New York City and then settled in this area in 1952. She was an extremely talented seamstress and worked for many years at Barclay's Home Products and the Troy District Shirt Co. in Cohoes until her retirement.
The two guiding forces in Lucy's life were always her faith and her family. She was an active parishioner of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cohoes and belonged to Soyuz Ukrainok Women's Organization. She was known for her green thumb and took great pride in her garden. She canned and preserved everything she grew and cooked many Ukrainian delicacies.
Lukera was the loving wife of Gregory Kauta who passed in 1993 and the beloved mother of Stephen Kauta of Waterford. She is also survived by her neighbor and dear friend, Craig Cheney.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 27th at 10:15 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 11 a.m. in St. Peter & St. Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Peter & St. Paul Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. A Panakhyda service will be held at 6 p.m. in the funeral home.
