Lula Hammond Obituary
Godfrey - Lula Frances Hammond (Barrett), 76, died at 5:09 a.m. Saturday, July 8, 2023 at the home of her sister-in-law, Cathy Greeling, in Godfrey, IL. Born November 29, 1946 in Kansas City, MO, she was the daughter of John and Louise (Martin) Hammond. She married Patrick Barrett on August 5, 1976, in Houston, TX. Ms. Hammond was a published author and with her husband, Patrick, established and developed a nationally recognized driver education and training business including materials, programs and services. She is survived by her husband, Patrick Barrett, by her two sons John Patrick Barrett (Courtney) of Katy, TX and Warren James Barrett (Christina) of Houston, TX, a daughter-in-law, Sarah Roberts Barrett of Houston, TX and four grandchildren, Margaret Barrett, Alexis Barrett, Patrick Barrett and Joseph Barrett, and two nieces, Sherelyn Coggins of Belton, MO, and Joyce Ann Couts of Belton, MO. She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Joseph Barrett and two sisters Doris (Hammond) Dick and Sue Ann (Hammond) Bledsoe.
Frances was a warm and caring person whose smile brought joy to others. She served as a den mother and scout leader for the Boy Scouts for twelve years. In her free time, she enjoyed playing games with her family and friends. She hardly went a day without reading a book and fantasy books were her favorite. She loved visiting the Renaissance festival with family. She went on many adventures with those in her life that loved her and now she is onto her next adventure.
Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023 at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Godfrey, IL and a celebration of life at the Knights of Columbus (Godfrey, IL) immediately following the service. I have very vivid memories of Fran, belly dancing outside my Grandma Johnson´s house, i was around the age of 7. I remember thinking she was the coolest women i´d ever seen. I also remember my grandparents taking my brother and i to Houston to visit around the age of 10.. because of these memories i recently have begun belly dance lessens.. Fran you have unknowingly touched so many lives in with so many great memories.. you will be missed dearly dearly.

What relation do I pick here. Wow Family sort of and Friend and Neighbor. She was just accross 40 highway from us I think it was. Baby sitter, she sat for me when I was actually a baby I think. I do remember staying with her family when my mom was in hospital having Curtis. We had many adventures together. My love thoughts and prayers are with her family and many friends as we go through this time. May God bless you all.
