Lula Mae French Powell, affectionately known as “Mama Lou,” age 94, a lifelong resident of Alberta, VA, passed away Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Mrs. Powell was preceded in death by her parents, William French and Mable Tanner; her husband of 52 years, Russell Thomas Powell, Sr.; a granddaughter, Lisa Sheree Webb; son-in-law, Peter Webb, as well as her siblings, Mabel, Blanche, Doris, and Bill.
She is survived by her children, Russell Thomas “Tommy” Powell, Jr. and wife JoAnn, Ellen Sue Powell Webb, and Jamie Powell and wife, Robin; grandchildren, John Webb and wife, Holly, Holly Walton, Rusty Webb and wife, Stephanie, Beth Jones and husband, Chris, Russ Powell, Ryan Powell and wife, Kayla, as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2025 at Williams Funeral Home in Lawrenceville, VA followed by interment at Bethel Church Cemetery in Alberta. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Hope Christian Church, 28867 Christanna Highway, Alberta, VA 23821.
