Lupe "Maria" Gorniak

Lupe "Maria" Gorniak of Sterling Heights, MI passed away on April 3, 2025 at the age 83. Loving wife of the late Walter "Jerry" Gorniak. Devoted friend and partner of the late Andrew Poyma. Cherished mother to Kimberly and her husband Brian. Beloved grandmother (Meme) to Logan and dear sister of Sally Forgays and the late Jesse and Manuel Ramirez. Lupe was preceded in death by her mother Pauline Miller and father Lupe Ramirez.
Maria was born in Detroit, MI on November 22, 1941. She was blessed with the love of two extraordinary men in her life. She married her true love, Walter "Jerry" Gorniak in April of 1968 and was with him through 13 years of marriage until his unexpected passing at the age of 40. Maria was fortunate to have a wonderful partner later in life and she spent time traveling the world with her beloved Andy until his passing in 2017. Maria adored people and could easily strike up a conversation with anyone. She loved her family deeply, including her dear friend Debbie, and was loved by many.
Maria worked as a home health caretaker and nurses aide throughout her lifetime offering compassion and comfort to anyone in need. Her heart was full when she was helping others and one of her favorite assignments was caring for newborn babies in the NICU. She enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, and working in the yard of her Sterling Heights home of over 50 years. Maria loved dressing up and going out for fancy cocktails and nice meals with family and friends. Dancing was a passion, and Maria belly danced well into her 70s. She enjoyed life to the fullest and had a strong Catholic faith and relationship with God. Maria was a force of nature and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025 from 2-5pm with a Funeral Service starting at 5pm at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons 36900 Schoenherr at Metro Parkway (16 Mile Rd).
