Luther Beam Obituary

COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Luther Edmon Beam, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Cookeville October 14, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on July 13, 1937, in Crossville, Tennessee, Luther led a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and country.

Luther's professional journey began in the insurance field, where he built a successful career and eventually retired from Woodman of the World. An enterprising individual, he also invested in real estate, displaying his keen business acumen and work ethic. His personality was characterized as hard-working and happy-go-lucky, traits that endeared him to all who crossed his path. Luther enjoyed engaging with others, often injecting humor into conversations and ensuring that those around him always had a reason to smile.

His commitment to serving others extended beyond his professional endeavors. At the young age of 15, with his mother's permission, Luther joined the Tennessee Army National Guard. He dedicated his youth to military service, transitioning to the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957, and later serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1962. Luther took great pride in his service to his country, demonstrating unwavering patriotism throughout his life.

Luther created cherished memories for his family, such as the delightful tradition of hiding Easter eggs so expertly that some remained undiscovered for years. He had a passion for visiting his farm in Kentucky, a place that provided him solace and joy.

Luther is survived by his loving daughters, Lee Ann (Philip) Hall and Lynette (Lorne) Miller. He also leaves behind five beloved grandchildren: Rachel (Heath) Sampson, Josh (Katherine) Pryor, Anna (Oakley) Hitchcock, Vanessa Loftis, and Ryan Hall, as well as 11 precious great-grandchildren: Shelby and Ellie Sampson, Adam, Madison, and Isaac Hitchcock, Wade and Jay Pryor, D.J., Declan, Edith Jo, and Hollis Loftis.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Winnie and Bill Mifflin; his father, Noah Lee Beam; his loving wife of 58 years, Edith Cornell Beam; brothers, Clifton, James, and Noah Beam; and sisters, Marlene Smith and Veronia Woody.

A funeral service honoring Luther will be at 11 AM on Saturday October 19 at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home. Visitation for friends and family will be on Friday from 5-8 PM and again on Saturday from 10-11 AM. Luther will be laid to rest next to his wife at the Cookeville City Cemetery.

Luther Edmon Beam's legacy of love, laughter, and service will remain in the hearts of those who knew him well. He will be dearly missed, yet his spirit will continue to resonate through the joyful memories he created and the lives he touched.
