Luther Gruver Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Anders-Detweiler Funeral Home & Crematory - Souderton on Jan. 26, 2026.
Luther "Bud" E. Gruver, 92, of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania, formerly of Trumbauersville and Sellersville, entered into rest on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at his residence.

He was the loving husband of the late Gloria Joan (Crouthamel) Gruver. Bud was born in Sellersville, Pennsylvania, to the late Luther Edwin Gruver and the late Marion (Headman) Gruver.

He attended Sell-Perk High School, class of 1951, and later earned his GED following his military service. In the early 1950s, Bud proudly served his country as an Aircraft Engine Mechanic in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

After returning home, he was employed by Souderton Acme Markets and Wismer's Upholstery Shop, both in Souderton. During the 1960s, Bud graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to work for the former Bethlehem Steel Research Center, where he was employed for 24 years before retiring in the mid-1980s.

Bud was a former member of the Pennridge Airport in Perkasie and bowled in a league at Earl Bowl in Earlington. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. An avid reader, he also enjoyed golf, bowling, math problems, Sudoku, playing pinochle, repairing appliances, and tinkering with cars. Bud was known as an honest, strong, honorable, and dependable man with a wonderful sense of humor.

In addition to his wife, Carmen Bernarda (Cisnero Polanco) De Gruver, Bud is survived by his three daughters: Cheryl A. Otto and her husband, Joseph, Sr., of Quakertown; Denise L. Maradeo and her husband, Vincent, of Lehighton; and Sandy L. Orben and her husband, Paul, of Coopersburg; his daughter-in-law, Patricia "Pat" Gruver of Walnutport; eight grandchildren: Jason, Emily, Melissa, Joe, Kristen, Josh, Anthony, and Timothy; thirteen great-grandchildren: Hayden, Haylee, Keilani, Giselle, Nayeli, Aryelle, Liam, Brody, Nevaeh, Nolan, Sawyer, Harper, and Carter; his sister, Judy Kulp of Hatfield; and his sister-in-law, Patricia "Patty" Gruver of Ocala, Florida.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his former wife, Gloria Joan Gruver; his son, Randall S. Gruver; and his siblings, Maryellen "Dolly" Tyson, Ronald Gruver, Janet Warren, and Marjorie "Margie" Coll.
