Luther Jacobson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by White Funeral Home - Lakeville on Jan. 21, 2026.
Luther Marvin Jacobson, age 79, passed away peacefully in his sleep January 18, 2026. He was born on the family farm in Rake, Iowa, where he lived until age 14. His family moved to Mason City where he graduated in 1964. After high school, he attended vocational training to be a diesel mechanic in Kansas City. Dad got his "invitation" to join the US Army in 1966 where he spent two years serving his country. After his time in the service he moved to Minneapolis to continue working for Jefferson Lines as a diesel mechanic. He met his soulmate Karen Sonstelie on a blind date in 1968 and later married.

Luther worked over 52 years as a well respected diesel mechanic/shop foreman where he mentored many young mechanics. Luther enjoyed spending time with family, working on old cars, tractors, and traveling with his sweetie. He was a master of starting cars and tractors that sat for many years.

Luther is survived by his son Mitch (Carrie), grandchildren Emma, Victoria, Olivia, and Luke, son Kevin (Carmen), siblings Shirley, Marlene, Roger (Phyllis), Paul (Mary), Ruth (Stan), Naomi (Doug), Rachel (Jerry), Deb (Geno), Beth (Ed) and a large loving family and caring friends.

Preceded in death by his loving wife Karen, parents Ludvig and Mabel, siblings Joann, Loren, Carolyn, Mary and grandson Oliver.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, February 5th at 10:00 at Woodlake Lutheran Church, 2120 W. 76th street, Richfield, MN 55423. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Luncheon to follow the service. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at 1:00pm.

The family would like to give a special thank you to The VA Medical Center, Fairview Heart Clinic, Minnesota Hospice, and his Havenwood family of staff and residents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be given to Woodlake Lutheran Church, Minnesota Hospice, or Havenwood of Burnsville, in Luther's honor.

For those who are unable to attend, the service will be broadcast on Woodlake Lutheran's YouTube channel or Woodlake LIve:
