Lydia M. DeWitte, 98, of Bowling Green, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, at The Willows of Bowling Green under the care of Care 260 Hospice. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Lydia was born on July 10, 1926, in Duisburg, Germany, to the late Albert K. and Martha (Owlzewski) Schneider. She met her loving husband, Fritz (Fred) F. DeWitte, in Germany, while he was serving as a Sergeant in the US Army. They were married in Augsburg, Germany, on December 18, 1948, and moved to Detroit, Michigan. They shared many wonderful years together until his passing on August 23, 2014.
Lydia and Fred were accomplished ballroom dancers, a hobby that they took up in their 60's. Lydia was an amazing cook and made many wonderful German recipes including her delicious Rouladen which was a family favorite. She loved to knit and crochet and made numerous beautiful blankets, scarves, hats, sweaters, and baby clothes. She was also a skilled seamstress, making all the shirts for her bowling team and even a suit for her husband.
She is survived by her sons: Albert (Lila), William (Gail), and Kenneth DeWitte; grandchildren: Sean (Alexi), Cory (Emma) and Jeff DeWitte, Jessica (Alexander) Colo, Kelly (Matt) Dombeck, and Sonya Bolos; great-grandchildren: Jacob Dombek, Lola, Miles and Iris DeWitte, Spencer and Tegan Colo, Harley (Angelica) Rise, and April Cantrell. Lydia is also survived by her family in Germany.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz (Fred) F. DeWitte, parents Albert and Martha Schneider, step-mother Berta (Springer) Schneider, brother Albert Schneider, daughter Heidi Bolos, and a granddaughter, Dawn Rise.
Services for Lydia will be private. Donations in Lydia's memory may be shared with either The Willows at Bowling Green or Care 360 Hospice. Deck-Hanneman Funeral Home has graciously been entrusted with Lydia's care.
