Lydia Haney Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by New Pitts Mortuary on Aug. 5, 2023.
In Loving Memory of
Lydia Jean Haney was born January 16, 1964, in Milwaukee, WI to Rev. Sidney M. Haney
and Essie L. Haney. She was the youngest child of 13 children.
Lydia accepted Christ at an early age and joined Tabernacle M.B. Church in Milwaukee, WI. She enjoyed singing church hymnals with her family. Lydia had an angelic voice which she inherited from her mother, as well as a spirit of humility and was soft spoken, kind, patient, gracious, forgiving, and wise. She had a way of speaking life into a situation no matter the issue and took a Christ-like view of things with forgiveness and understanding. Her ability to put herself in the shoes of others was remarkable.
Lydia attended school in Milwaukee, WI and continued to pursue her education at Milwaukee Area Technical College Culinary Arts program. She put her culinary skills to use by cooking for her family and friends and worked in the food service industry for over 20 years. Now, our precious jewel has left us. But we shall never forget the practical lessons that she taught us about God, love, forgiveness, and family. We are grateful to have had her as a mother, sister, and we shall never forget the stellar example she set for us.
Lydia leaves behind to cherish her memory: two daughters, Día Haney and Julia Cole; three sons, David Nicholson, Timothy Haney, and Brandon Haney; eight sisters, Easter Haney, Sylvia Haney, Cassandra Mgbakogu, Pamela Haney, Betty Haney, Essie Washington, Valerie Roy, and Daphne Harris; one brother, Sidney Haney, Jr.; ten grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Sidney and Essie Haney; two sisters, Marsha Haney and Hazel Stevens; one brother, Thaddeus Haney; and two sons, Benjamin Haney and Johnathan Dallas.
