Lydia May Hopson

Lydia May Hopson, 71, of Port Arthur, died Wednesday, January 29, 2025. She was born on May 7, 1953, to Martha and B.W. Shoemaker, in Port Arthur.
Her early years were spent in Groves, Texas where she began a family. She was a stay-at-home mom. She enjoyed being with her children and watching her "stories", Days of her Lives was her favorite. She was a homemaker who made sure her family had a home cooked meal every night. Later in life she moved to Jasper, Texas where she enjoyed working as a swing manager at McDonald's, the favorite part of her job was gifting her grandchildren every set of Happy Meal toys. Once it was time for retirement, she moved to Port Arthur, Texas where she enjoyed working with Meals on Wheels at her apartment complex. She enjoyed arts and crafts, bingo, sitting on the patio and going to Walmart with her friends. Her children's friends all became her children too, which is how they all referred to her as "Mom".
She is survived by her children, Linda Hancock, of Nederland, Kimberly Coe and husband, Joshua, of Severn, Maryland, and C.J. Roberts, of Arkansas; grandchildren, Jake Maddox, Ethan Hancock, Kenzie Hancock, Lexi Cochran and fiancé, Harrison Martin, Thomas Granger, Ryan Coe, Natalie Coe, Kyle Roberts and Bryce Roberts; great grandchild, BraeLynn Roberts; brother, Loyd Shoemaker and wife, Darlene; and sister, Frances Shoemaker.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Martha and B.W. Shoemaker; her husband, J.R. Hopson; and brothers, Ronald Shoemaker, Frederick Shoemaker, Buck Shoemaker and Luther Shoemaker.
A gathering of Mrs. Hopson's friends and family will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Broussard's, 505 North 12 Street, Nederland. Her cremation arrangements will be handled through Broussard's Crematorium, Beaumont.
